"Come on Star!" I whispered to my black horse as we raced past tons of grass and trees, trying not to get hit. I took a quick glance behind me, and sure enough, the figure with a black hood was still on my trail. They notched an arrow into their bow and drew the string back, aiming at my face.
I quickly turned back around just as the arrow grazed my cheek. A stream of warm, crimson blood ran down my face and dripped onto my hand. The cut burned on my cheek like salt had been poured into it.
My vision blurred and a single word came to my mind; poison. With my hands shaking and my head spinning, I pulled a single dagger out of my belt. In one swift movement, I turned and launched the blade through the air. It found its way into the other person's shoulder.
With a final violent twitch, their hood fell from their head, revealing a set of cold, dark eyes. Her black short hair lay motionless against her sweaty forehead. She let out a slight moan as her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she slid from her horse's saddle, dead.
My breaths were ragged as I slowed my horse and turned back around to head to headquarters. I couldn't get those cold, dark eyes out of my head. There was a rapid pounding against my skull, and a sudden shiver went through my body.
"Star," I whimpered, patting my horse, "take us home." With a final breath, I blacked out.
