Annamarie

I gently lifted the lightly shorter girl to her feet and quickly said, "You should come over sometime!" Idiot!
"Well, my dad texted me to say he wouldn't be able to pick me up until 6:15..." Her voice drifted off a little too suddenly as she looked me up and down. She turned a little pink, then red.
"What?", I asked.
"N-nothing." Hmm...strange...

"Maybe you can come over today! Since, ya know...6:15 isn't the best time to leave school." Finn and I had continued our conversation after school got out, but I was nervous. Oh crap, was I rushing everything? What if she thinks I'm being creepy? Or crazy? Or freaky?! Or maybe she thinks I'm going insane?!?! I didn't know why, but I really wanted her to say—
"Yeah! I called my dad and he said it'd be okay!!", Finn flashed that perfect smile of hers. Wait...perfect smile...? W-whatever...
"T-that's great!", I stuttered, thankful for that perfect timing. "My mum should be here in a couple of minutes." Now that she's not with Justin, I thought to myself. Then, out of the corner of my eye, a certain Albino was practically sprinting over to us.
"OMG, ANNAMARIE, BRYAN ASKED ME OUT!!!" Bryan was Scarlett's crush since 6th grade, so hearing that he apparently liked Scarlett too was pretty nice!
"That's awesome!" HONK HONK.
"That should be Mum!", I cheered. It'll be the first time Mum picks us up in a long time...
When we got in the car, I introduced Finn to Mum. Mum seemed a little hesitant about her at first, but after I told her what had happened, she accepted her with loving arms, just as she does with almost everyone.
The entire trip home, Scarlett talked about how excited she was to go out with Bryan, who was popular, but also seemed nice. She spoke of his dark, 'luscious' eyes and his sand coloured hair.
For me, it was too much info about one single person.
Then, Mum shot a comment toward me. "So, tell me about the random person in my car." I knew she was talking about Finn, but I decided to be funny.
"Well, she's my sister..." This received a motherly glare and two eye rolls.
"You know what I mean", Mum said with a playfulness I hadn't heard in over three years. I looked over to Finn, who seemed a bit worried.
"U-um...well...I recently moved from England, the place I've been since I was born." This was proven with her accent, but the more I heard it, the more it sounded like she was forcing her true accent down. Almost like she was hiding it...
"Really? I've been there a couple of times, before these two were born." She smiled.
Normally, she hated talking about the times where it was just her and Dad. Every time we ask about what it was like before we were born, sadness would blossom in her dark brown orbs and she'd solemnly say, "Don't worry about it, dear. It wasn't as good as the time now, so why worry about it?" She would pull me and Scarlett into her world-known bear hug, one that was always warm and soft, no matter the situation at hand. Then, she'd do something funny to make us forget about the whole thing; I guess she thinks that we don't know, but we do. We just don't want to push her too far.
Either way, she was releasing all these amazing memories as if they had just happened. Maybe it was because she saw something in Finn, or the fact that Mum was still in shock of the whole scenario that had occurred, but there was no doubt that she trusted the blonde girl that can kick serious butt.
After about five minutes, my mother called out, "We're home!!" It felt great to hear those simple words. No Dad. No Justin. Just me, Scarlett, Mum, and (for now) Finn.

"Alright girls! Give me just a sec. It's been quite a while since I made our Green Cookies." We had gotten out of the car, set our bags down, and taken a seat on "Justin's" old couch, which was actually ours.
"T-Thank you, Mrs. Gale, but what exactly are green cookies? Are they like lime biscuits?" I had forgotten that Finn wasn't used to my family's tradition.
"Well, sort of. Basically, my dad hated abnormally coloured things. He always said that they were "freaks of the world" just because they weren't a specific colour."
     "That's thing-racist", Finn commented. I couldn't help but laugh.
"Yeah, it is. So, every time we had chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies, Mum would purposely dye them green. So now we just call them the Green Cookies instead of the Chocolate-Chip-And-Peanut-Butter-Cookies-We-Dye-Green. I'd imagine that would be a lot to say."
"Yeah, that would be quite the mouthful."
     "Yeah?"
"Yeah." Finn nodded her head before bursting into a fit of laughter.
Honestly, I wish I could live in that moment for the rest of eternity sometimes. Compared to others points of my life, those seconds seemed to make everything go away, but they also made me question what I was.
That was when I accepted my crush on Finn Barkley.
