IT WAS BRING-YOUR-MOM DAY IN CANADA'S OAKWOOD GRADE SCHOOL.
the first grade students were tasked to bring their mothers to school for a small and simple program. there would be activities and contests, like talent and fashion shows. ellie was holding her mother's hand as they both walked through the grade one hallways. she wanted to win first place in the fashion show in school today. just like her mother, she was clad in a white polo, a denim skirt and black sandals. her neck was also adorned with white pearls and her ears with gold studs. she felt beautiful.
while walking to her classroom, she had passed by tristan and his mom who were sat on a bench in the hallway. they were both wearing denim jeans, but his mom wore flared ones. tristan wore a white polo and black rubber shoes. she thought he looked good. she turned away and just walked. tristan saw her and boy, did he think she looked good too. this action did not go unnoticed by ellie's mom.
"hun, who's that boy staring at you?" ellie's mother crouched down to her and pointed at the boy. ellie looked to where she was pointing and saw tristan with his head down, playing with his thumbs.
"tristan!" the little girl called out. tristan was shocked at first but quickly grabbed his mom's hand. he ran to ellie while his mother was saying, 'slow down dear,' repetitively. he didn't seem to mind though, he just wanted to go to ellie. behind him, his mother apologized to a person she had hit while rushing after her careless son.
"ellie-bell!" tristan hugged her and was able to get a whiff of her perfume, she smelled like fresh berries. on the other hand, she thought that tristan smelled like chocolate chip cookies, her favorite kind of cookies. they could care less if their mothers got along or not because they were too engrossed in their conversation about spongebob squarepants.
"squidward is my favorite character!"
"what? he sucks!"
"no, he does not!"
"he does, ellie! patrick star is way cooler!"
"yeah, if you find living under a rock cool!"
during their small debate about their favorite characters, their mothers were talking about how adorable their children were being at the moment. they even noticed the mere coincidence that their children matched outfits, both in white and denim. little did they know that their mothers were hoping for the same thing.
they hoped that their children would become something more in the future.
