Draupadi - The Tritagonist Of The Mahabharat

BIRTH

For many years Drupad, king of Panchal, had no children. So, to have children he performed tapas (rigorous rituals); he thought only of God day and night and prayed to Him. Before that, King Drupad had been
defeated by the Pandava prince Arjun on behalf of Drona, who subsequently took half his kingdom.

"I will surely not forgive that Arjun and that Drona. I'll surely seek vengeance. Tomorrow I'll perform a yajna to obtain a means of besting him. My son will full fill my needs."

In the yajna Hall...

"Maharaj Drupad, it's getting late...please call your maharani soon. Or else we cannot perform a proper yajna."

"My apology guruji, my wife is still bathing... She cannot come right now. It's OK, just perform the yajna."

"Maharaj, I'm sorry... But still I'll perform the yajna but I'm not responsible for the outcome!"

God blessed him, and two children were born out of the sacrificial fire. First emerged the life taker of Drona.

"He will be the reason for the downfall of Drona, that Drona who insulted me! I would name my son, my wish full filler as Dhristadyumna."

Just before Drupad could welcome his son, a dark skinned young , long haired woman emerged out of the sacrificial fire. She was extremely beautiful, intelligent and virtuous woman, with her body smelling like a fresh bloom lotus. While she emerged, a heavenly voice said that she would bring about the destruction of the Kuru line.

Drupad didn't expect this. He was angry.

"Guruji! I didn't ask for a female child. I don't want her. For what use is she to me. I wished that she would marry Arjun to take complete revenge, but the Pandavas have died too. Her birth is a waste!"

"Drupad! What are you speaking? It's all your fault! It happened because of the absence of your wife. You have to accept her."

Krishna arrives.

"Maharaj Drupad, she is not useless. She is born for the welfare of this generation. She will be the change...the change that will benefit our dynasty... I'll name my Sakhi as Draupadi, the daughter of Drupad"

Therefore Draupadi was born out of hatred and anger.

*Draupadi and Lord Krishna shared a very special relationship. Draupadi recognises that Lord Krishna is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. She is happy to know that her Sakha is with her here too. She, till the end, shows immense love and respect towards him. Draupadi always considered Lord Krishna as her Sakha or beloved friend and Krishna addressed her as Sakhi, this as symbolic of the platonic love existing between the fiery Draupadi and the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Krishna. Draupadi is the instrument of Lord Krishna. Using her, he realized his mega-plan of annihilating the evil Kauravas. The choice of Draupadi as the instrument, which caused his actions, explains the special place she had in his scheme of things, Draupadi was put through severe tests in her life. The only true friend, who validated her persona and came to her rescue each time she found herself in dire circumstances, was Krishna, whose divine presence she experienced constantly in her life.
