Mia stuffed her nose in my eye, signaling it was time to get up, even if I was reluctant to do so. I slung on my light-wash jeans and a gray cami, then stuffed my long hair in a messy bun. In the kitchen, I opened the fridge and stared for a while. Nothing.
Well, I suppose I should go to the store.
I drove to the local grocery store and and trudged inside. After about an hour of grocery shopping, I headed to the checkout only to see Jenny skipping towards me. I had no time to escape.
She reached me and screeched, "Lyssa!"
"Jenny." I replied somewhat bitterly.
She didn't seem to notice. "I have been trying to call you for, like, ever! What happened the other night?"
"Um, I've been working like other normal people." I said.
She frowned. "That doesn't explain why you hung up on me!"
"I'm sorry."
"You'd better be! Anyhow, what's new about that Rogers guy you've been telling me about? Is he seeing anyone?!"
"I don't know, will you please shut up about the guy?!" I yelled, a little too loud.
I looked at all the people stopping and staring at me and sighed. To make matters worse, Jenny gave me her classic 'Kicked Puppy' pout.
"I'm sorry, Jen. I'm just stressed is all." I gave her a lopsided smile.
"What's bothering you?" She asked.
I quickly thought of something. "Uh, one of the nurses in my unit broke her leg, so I have to take care of one of her patients."
"Oh. Well that sucks," She said, clearly disinterested. "I wanna go shopping, so we need to go to the mall, maybe get you some better clothes. I'll be over at your place Friday." She picked at the strap of my camisole distastefully and turned to strut off in the distance.
I checked out and sprinted through the dismal downpour outside to my car. Hopping in the car, I had a sudden idea and I was at the mall 20 minutes later.
Really, it's stupid. I'm here, at the mall, picking out cute clothes to impress a man I barely know.
Yet, here I am.
I smiled as I modeled a black and white, striped, long sleeve shirt. It was adorable, and it highlighted all my nice features. I stripped it off and snatched three pairs of jeans and a couple more shirts. I was heading towards the register, when a dress caught my eye. It was a beautiful floor-length dress. It was deep red, was ruffled along the bodice and had a strapless sweet-heart neckline. I jerked it off the rack and sprinted towards the checkout, my arms full of beautiful clothes.
