Scarlet Mystery

Chapter 4

When I opened my eyes I found myself laying on a lime green bed with a white blanket over me. I knew instantly where I was, Sky's house.

"Ah, good, you're finally awake." Sky gently pushed my hair out of the way and placed a warm cloth over my forehead.

"You had another one of your attacks didn't you? Hasn't the doctor given you any medicine?"

"No, he hasn't. He doesn't even know why I have these attacks. It's not genetic, none of my other family members have had these attacks." I replied with a shaky voice. Sky handed me a white teacup with a blue handle.

I took a whiff of the liquid inside. "Mm, green tea with honey and a spoon full of lemon juice. My favorite."

"I know. It's also supposed to help you after your attacks."

"Now how do you know so much about herbs?" I teased him.

Sky gave a shy smile. "well, Ma taught me about herbs. She said that I would need to know what herb is used for what when she dies. So that I can take care of myself and Lily. What about you, don't you know anything about herbs?"

"A little." I replied. Then I thought about Mother Snake. "what time is it? Mother Snake said I had to be home before the sun does down."

"I'll take you home. I'll tell her that you and I went out to pick herbs and that you had another one of your attacks and that you should rest. That should get you out of trouble and work." He winked.

I only laughed. "You're such an idiot."

"Where have you been?!" Mother Snake practically kicked the front door open when she spotted Sky and I on White Storms back. Her eyes were angry. I could almost hear her heavy breathing.

"Scarlet was picking herbs with me when she had an attack."

"That girl is out picking herbs when there is a war about to break out?!" She snapped.

I was shocked and I could tell by the stiffing of Sky's muscles that he was too. A war? A war hadn't broke out in Wellington in 15 years. Now suddenly there was a war?

"A war? What are you talking about?" Sky climbed off of White Storm. For the first time I noticed how large he was. He was large and muscular. His brown eyes flashed. "Well?"

"King Andrew and Queen Rebecca are at it again. Firing at each other." Mother Snake explained, "King Andrew was said to have blamed Queen Rebecca for the disappearing of his precious jewels of his kingdom. He said that Queen Rebecca sent spies and thieves into his kingdom to steal from them."

Queen Rebecca was the queen of Wellington. Her husband, King Michael, died about ten years ago. Since then, there hasn't been any conflicts; big or small.

"Of course Queen Rebecca won't go off into war right? She's merely trying to defend herself? We aren't ready for war, are we?" I, too, climbed off White Storm.

"Ready for war or not, it's going to happen, no matter what anyone says."
