PROLOGUE
Marceline was sitting on her bed during a lazy Sunday afternoon. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do that day, she had already visited the nightoshpere several times that week and, feared she was becoming a burden or annoyance to her father while he was busy running 'the family business'. She couldn't just waste all this time doing nothing and just sitting around. Maybe she could visit the fluffy people today. Marceline was a do-gooder, a fine role model and anything except a hooligan of sorts. She believed in fine manners and proper punctuation. Things that average citizens of Ooo didn't even care to think about. Not to say that ever candy person was terrible it's just, Marcy was your classic teachers pet kind of girl. For example, today she was wearing a yellow, below-the-knee summer dress and a pony tail. She finally made a decision that maybe she could go visit her hubby Gumball.
They had been dating for at least 2 months now and she was very happy with their relationship. Marceline hadn't been in many before so, there was really nothing to compare it to. Therefore no way of knowing what kind of boyfriend he was. Now that her mother wasn't around to guide her, Marceline's, naïve cheerfulness and grand stupidity were all she had to help herself with. He did seem like a wonderful boyfriend so far though. Sure he ignored her sometimes and they didn't spend as much time together as she would like but, no couple is perfect right? She loved him and that was the only thing that mattered. And, like a gust of wind, Marcy shot out of her cave and was off to see him.
"I wonder if he's home..." she mumbled in a slightly less optimistic tone of voice.
Along her way to the Candy Kingdom she grabbed an apple from the nearby tree and began to suck the succulent, crimson color out of it. As she neared the main gates, she could see the faces of the banana guards lighting up as they caught sight of her. It was amazing how close she had become with them ever since she started coming here more frequently. Some of them had even been here for as long a she had.
"Hello Miss Marceline!" hollered one of the guards, as she approached.
"Hey, beautiful day isn't it?"
"Why yes one of the best I've seen all week. Here to see the Prince I presume."
"Yes, thank you" she replied in a soothing voice.
"Right this way."
And, with that the gates opened and the guard made a motion with his hand, gesturing for Marceline to enter. As she walked through town she said hello to many familiar faces like, cinnamon bun and lollipop girl. Making her way through the kingdom she slowly but surely neared the castle. She was very excited to be seeing Gumby so soon. Their last confrontation didn't exactly end on the best of terms. Marceline didn't like his tone of voice and said to him that; she thought he should change it. This only ended in another turn of events in which, he accused her of being selfish and she threw him out of her home. She was also worried he wouldn't be as excited to see her as she was to see him. The whole thing about unrequited love was always a big fear of hers. It was a small trust issue lingering in the back of her large, delirious mind.
As she entered the castle the sweet aroma of candy ceilings, walls and furniture entered her nostrils. When she first started to see the sweet candy Prince she found the smell, well, almost unpleasant or suffocating. Now that she had been so familiar with the scent she found it a bit alluring. I suppose it would be fair to say that she loved it so much, because of all the wonderful memories it was tied to. She trotted further into the building until she came upon Gumball's room. Marcy didn't just want to barge into his room but she was so anxious to see him. She rapidly knocked on the door in a trio of three quick flicks of the wrist.
"Gumball?" she asked excitedly
After a few moments, which felt like and eternity of waiting, he opened the door just enough so that only his body, and none of his room, was visible. He was in his usual attire of; jeans and a loose fitting V-neck. Although he did often look a bit sloppy for Marceline's taste but this time, it looked like he had gotten dressed in a hurry. Maybe he wanted to look more presentable for her, rather than be caught in his jammies, Marcy assumed.
