"It is said that the great founder of Unova was a single but powerful dragon Pokémon. The twin heroes of legend tamed the magnificent beast and brought prosperity to humans and Pokémon alike. However, as time passed the brothers discovered that they each sought something different in life - truth for one brother and ideals for the other. They began to argue, and then fight over whose cause was more worthy. The single dragon, who had once represented peace, was now torn by war and split into two lesser dragons, but each with considerable power. Reshiram the White, who sided with the fact of truth; and Zekrom the Black, who sided with the dream of ideals.
"A fierce battle ensued between the two dragons, devastating the land and people. But they were equally matched, and neither could prevail over the other. In order to prevent further violence, the twins set aside their differences, the dragons mysteriously disappeared, and the land was at peace once again. Yet their descendants continued to fight, but the mighty Pokémon never appeared again..."The spectacled boy stopped reading aloud as he was hit in the face by a pillow.
"Do you mind? Some people are trying to sleep here...give me back my pillow, please?" Touko looked up at Cheren with big eyes, and with a dignified snort, he tossed it back.
"Well, it's not like Bianca's going to turn up anytime soon: thought I might as well immerse myself in your history books."
A moment of silence passed, and Touko bathed in the warmth of her bedsheets.
"Have you ever wondered what happened to the brothers?"
"Cheren, shut up."
"I'm serious! It's common knowledge that the two dragon Pokémon vanished after their epic battle, but what happened to the trainers who wielded them? Aren't you even curious?"
Touko rolled over onto her stomach, looking across the bedroom to meet the thoughtful eyes of her childhood friend. She turned back over and snuggled into her pillow. "No."
A exasperated sigh could be heard from behind her. "Talkative as usual I see. Can't you make an attempt at conversation?" Cheren took off his glasses and began polishing the lens. "Knowing that Bianca, it'll be quite a while before she shows."
The half asleep brunette groaned. "Why did Professor Juniper bring the Pokémon so darned early? I honestly don't understand how you're alive at this hour."
"As fascinating as your laziness is, that particular statement does not answer my question."
"Oh, all right." Puffing out her cheeks, Touko sat up on her bed. "Some say that their passion for cause was so strong that their spirits lived on after death, and were inherited down through the generations that followed them - that's why people continued to fight. Whoever inherited the spirit of one of the brothers-"
"SORRY I'M LATE!!!"
Just as Touko was speaking, a very ruffled-looking Bianca burst into the room, hands on her knees and panting for breath. She looked up to see deadpan expressions on her friends' faces, and knew she was in for a scolding.
"-would have the ability to revive and command the respective dragon Pokémon." Touko muttered, although Cheren was now completely focused on Bianca's abrupt entrance. He finished polishing his glasses and put them back on with slow meaningfulness, raising an eyebrow at the tardy blonde.
"Honestly, Bianca...we're all aware of your disorganisation issue, but today is the day we finally become trainers! Did you even make an effort to be on time?"
