The only thing I don't like about Hogwarts, is how lightly guarded and patrolled the hallways can be. The whole reason Draco beat me up as badly as he did was because there was literally no one around to stop him. Also they start us on homework and such very early. Like our second day. Chris and I walked to Defense Against the Dark Arts, so far this had been the longest amount of time we have had the same DADA teacher. I sat down at a spot, "Hello Mr. Lester!" Professor Lupin said. (I'm sorry he's my fave). "Hello Professor!" I replied. This year we were learning a lot about repellant spells and stuff. My older brother had told me that, but of course he had a different teacher. I got out my wand and some parchment and a quill to do some notes. This was one of the only non-crossed class, so it was all Hufflepuff students. Today we were refreshing our memories on Boggarts and other stuff that we learned about last year.
After that, we had Charms with some of the Ravenclaw students (PJ included) and I was pretty good at Charms so it was all cool. My best class was probably Herbology. After that we had Transfiguration and then we had our break period where I went to the Quidditch pitch to catch up on my flying skills. I got my broom from the common room which I had gotten for my birthday the last year from my brother and I left. It was a very nice day out, perfect for flying. I mounted my broom and weaved in and out of the goal-posts and flew around the pitch a few times. I would have gotten out our practice set, but I wasn't sure where it had gone. I spotted Dodie in the stands and noticed she was playing her ukulele. It echoed around the fields and I could tell she was quietly singing along. Then Dan walked out with his broom and a practice set. I almost ran into a goal-post I was so surprised. "Hey Lester! Wanna practise?" He asked. "Uh, s-sure I guess." I stuttered. "Cool." Dan smiled.
Dan was a pretty good Keeper for being a Seeker. "Hey, you're pretty good at that position!" I told him. "Thanks, I played it at home with my dad." He said. Then I finally scored on him. "Good job! You'd make a good Chaser!" He yelled to me as I made a lap around the Pitch excitedly. This kid was confusing. Last year all he did was bully me and now he wants to practise Quidditch with me. We practised dodging for the rest of break. That was my worst thing in Quidditch was dodging, as I get easily distracted by stupid stuff and end up with a Bludger to the head. I hit a Bludger at Dan and he easily got out of the way, the thing dropped about ten feet behind him and we finished up. Dodie was packing up her ukulele and a thick fog had settled over the ground, filling the air with an eerie chill. It reminded me of when the dementors came to Hogwarts the year before. I hated the Dementors as, my childhood was filled with nightmarish memories of his father telling me how worthless and bothersome I was. My mother died when I was around the age of seven and my dad blamed everything on me and became an alcoholic. When I would come home he would start yelling at me and then he would hit and kick me, leaving me with injuries that made P.E. a hell on earth. When I was younger I never understood really what he was telling me, or why.
I walked back to the castle with Dan, we talked about different Quidditch teams, luckily, he was a huge fan of the Chudley Cannons, that might have been a problem if he wasn't. Next we had Potions which we were almost late for. Professor Snape would have given me a detention on the spot and probably make me go out at night to look for some creature in the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid. Which isn't all that bad, as Hagrid is quite kind to me and my friends. Also I know Harry Potter because I'm friends with Hagrid. Harry is quite a nice person, Ron is nice and Hermione is bossy, but very friendly and funny. PJ, Chris, and I were like the other Golden Trio at the school but we didn't have a name. Maybe we could get Dan to join our group. He seems to be changing a little bit, he did tease me sometimes if I didn't score while practising with him, but soon after realised what he had and apologised for it. I think he was trying. Which made me smile.
Chris and I were terrible at Potions. Snape glared at us, "Mr. Kendall," he growled in his drawling voice, "why does this look green?" Chris knew better than to be sassy with Snape. "I'm sorry sir, I'll try to fix it by the end of class." He apologised in a quiet voice. Snape turned on his heel and continued to stalk the class like a hawk.
"Chriiiiiiiiiis, what did you do?! It's supposed to be purple, not green!" I said.
"I don't know! I added the the scurvy grass, then I added the lovage, and then the sneezewort, then I stirred it."
"Which way did you stir it?!"
"I don't know!!!!!!"
"Oh my gosh Chris, let's just restart, I'll do it this time."
I got rid of the potion and added all of the ingredients in order and was very careful to stir it clockwise. It turned a purple colour and Snape walked over, he looked disappointed when he saw we got it correct. He sighed and walked away. "Yes!" Chris cheered quietly and gave me a high five. Dan looked at us right before his potion went in a cloud of something that made everyone in the room cough. He waved his hand around, trying to clear the orange-ish, green-ish smoke from the air. When he got it cleared, he was scowling as he dumped his potion and restarted. I giggled a bit at the way his hair was swooshed up, instead of the floppy emo hair cut that matched mine. "What are you looking at?" He snapped. I immediately looked away, I could feel my face flushing. What was he doing? Did he want to change or not?
OOOOOH I feel like I might be moving a bit too quickly with this book because there is already a set plot to it and it's only been two chapters. Oh well! I hope you love it! Stay safe and drink some water and eat some food if you haven't eaten much today. I love you all!
