Lindsey crossed her knees as she sat next to Marcel. She took his hand in hers gently, cupping it between both of her own gently. “Your brother said he’d be here in about twelve hours.” she whispered, though she knew he was out cold. “He thinks your mother would want to meet Alyssa and I. He seems like a really good big brother.”
Alyssa walked back over to her with a woman behind her. “Lindsey? Marcel’s mother is here to get him.” she told her.
“Oh, alright.” she whispered, letting go of Marcel’s hand slowly. “Harry said that he would be here in twelve hours and to keep him home so he doesn’t get hurt again.”
The mother nodded and smiled to her. “My name is Anne.” she told the two girls.
“I’m Alyssa and that’s my best friend Lindsey.” she said, gesturing to her.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Anne.” Lindsey said, standing up and holding her hand out to shake Anne’s hand.
“And likewise.” she smiled to the pair of them, shaking hands with Lindsey before she went to sign Marcel out.
Lindsey walked back to where she had been a few seconds before and knelt down next to Marcel. She put her hand on his shoulder and shook him gently. “Marcel, wake up. Your mother is here to pick you up.” she said softly.
Marcel’s eyes opened slowly and he moved to sit up, but winced and dropped back down onto his back. Lindsey put a hand behind his head, catching it before hit the cot again. “Are you okay?” she asked softly.
“Yeah. Just a little… uh… You know. Bruised.” he told her quietly.
“I’m sorry. That probably was a stupid thing to ask.” she said quietly, touching his arm again gently.
“No, no. It’s fine.” he promised quietly.
She smiled softly to him and helped him sit up. “I got your homework from your teachers for you.” Alyssa told him, watching them quietly.
Marcel nodded a little to her. “Thank you, Alyssa.” he said quietly.
“Your brother said to tell you that he’s on his way and that he thinks you should take Lindsey home with you to keep you company.”
“He did?”
“Yep. Here’s your phone by the way. I hope you don’t mind that we used it to contact him.” Alyssa held his phone out to him, biting her lip a little.
“Oh… No, it’s fine. He would have wanted you to contact him.”
Lindsey nodded a little to him. “Twelve hours is a long time. Where is he?” she asked quietly.
“North America. I think he’s in Chicago or somewhere close to it.” he explained.
“What’s he doing there? That’s so far from home.” she said softly.
Marcel shook his head and looked up as his mother came back into the nurse’s office. “Is it okay if Lindsey and Alyssa come over after they get out of school, mom? Harry wanted them to keep me company until he gets back.” he told her.
