Max stared daggers at Maka. Sure, when he had left, he wanted to have nothing to do with his mother; but now he felt the need to protect her... Somehow.
"What do you want with my mother?" He asked again, this time louder.
Soul piped up. "Woah, woah, woah. We're not going to hurt anyone. We just need you and your mother to come with us."
"Come with you where?" Max asked cautiously, not taking his piercing amber glare off of Maka.
"Back to where you belong," Soul told him, as if that entirely summed it up.
Max turned his glare to Soul. "I'm not going anywhere with you."
"For good reason," Maka chuckled to herself.
"Shut up," Soul told her.
Maka hesitantly put a hand on Max's shoulder. "What if I told you... that we know your father?" she said softly and slowly.
Max blinked, and the glare disappeared. He stumbled back a few steps, moving away from Maka's hand. His father? They knew his father? He blinked again, shocked. He was so bewildered that he forgot to be alarmed when Soul turned into a huge scythe in Maka's hand.
Maka spoke again, this time kinder. "C'mon. Let's go get your mom."
