Status: Day Two Of Invasion
Subject: Angela
Location: USA, Detroit, Michigan- Public High School, locked in boy's bathroom (Still)
Time: 6:30 AM
“Angela, time to wake up.” My eyes fluttered open at the sound of the voice. Though sleep had almost been impossible, I had somehow managed to steal a few moments of shut-eye. The book John had found was clutched tightly to my chest as if it were a life raft in this drowning world. I slept as far away from the bathroom door as possible and with my back against the wall. Now, I woke to the sound of moaning and scratching…and Cody’s face peering down at me.
“Come on! We gotta get movin’!” John called from the other end of the room. I peered around Cody and saw Kate, John, and Abby waiting patiently…or, not-so-patiently, for me to get up. Cody shot me an apologetic look.
“We let you sleep as long as we could.” He explained.
“Yeah, well, we can’t afford to wait any longer.” John snapped. Still half asleep, I clamored to my feet.
“What’s going on?” I asked. John frowned and glared at the bathroom door.
“It’s getting worse.” He muttered. “We gotta get outta here.”
“So….how?” I asked.
John pointed up. I followed his pointer finger and grew several shades of white.
“I thought you were joking about going through the ceiling.” I said.
“Yeah…well, I wasn’t.”
“I don’t do heights.”
“Do you do zombies?”
“On second thought…I love heights. Up, Up and away….right?”
John smirked and began to limb on top of the bathroom sinks. “Once I’m up, I’ll help everyone else up. The tiles should be strong enough to hold our weight.”
“And what if they’re not?” I asked. John turned and gave me a weird look
“Then I hope you’re a fast runner.”
“Shouldn’t we, like, umm, get, like, weapons or something?” Kate asked.
“Unless you feel like throwing urinals at the zombies, I think we’ll have to wait on the weapons.” John replied.
“So where exactly are we going?” I asked.
“The Library. And then the Cafeteria and the nurse’s office. We’ll need to stock up on supplies.” Abby explained.
John carefully balanced on the sink and stood up, reaching towards the ceiling and carefully removing one of the ceiling tiles. Then, in one fluid movement, John pulled himself through the hole. I watched his squirming legs disappear for a moment, and then his head reappear.
“Ya comin’, Angel?” John called. Ever-so-hesitantly, I moved towards the sink. Clamoring up on top of the thin and suddenly seemingly unstable porcelain ledge, I reached for John’s outstretched hand. The floor suddenly seemed very far away and I felt myself teeter unsteadily. Suddenly, a pair of strong, sturdy hands gripped around my waist, steadying me. I looked over my shoulder to see Cody.
“I’ve got ya, Angela.” He reassured. Giving a weak smile, I grasped John’s hand. And then I was flying. I was yanked up through the ceiling hole and place gently down on the other side. I looked over at surprise at John.
“You OK?” He asked.
“Yeah, but I think I left my stomach back there.” I replied. John chuckled . As He went to help Abby, Kate, and Cody up, I managed to get a good look around our escape route. The inside of a ceiling isn’t very grand. It was pretty much tile, wiring, piping, and dust. And a bunch of other stuff that I had a feeling I didn’t want to know what it was. It was dark. The only source of light came out of cracks. I watched as John pulled up Kate and Abby. Then Cody swung himself up. The guys were stronger than I had expected.
“OK, troops…” John said. “Let’s move out!”
