On a cardboard boat
We sailed beneath the moon
I remember how warm the sea felt to the touch
Like bath water in the midst of winters gloom
We sailed off to tomorrow
Where our hearts were painted new.But that only lasted a year or so
Tomorrow became sick and weary,
And our boat got stuck in Januaries snow
We nearly froze to death in the wake of our hope
Our boat, it failed to floatI've loved you through the sun,
Through the snow, through the pain
I've loved you through the soppy clouds
And dreary days of rain.
I've made only true promises,
And as I recall,
I promised you once I could make it through the day,
But I don't believe I can promise that today.
