*about 8 months later*

"Harry?"

"Yes dear?"

"Pass me the salt. This doesn't have near enough seasoning."

Harry handed me the salt, which I added to the top of the chicken. He had been teaching me to cook for weeks now and I was actually getting the hang of it. He laughed as I took the chicken out of the pan, sampling a small piece.

"What's so funny?"

"You couldn't cook a few weeks ago. And now you're like an expert."

I kissed him lightly before cutting off another small piece of the chicken and feeing it to him. He chewed quietly and then smiled.

"It's delicious, Dana," he whispered.

"Emmalyn! Louis! Dinner's ready!"

I heard the sound of thudding footsteps before both of them appeared. Louis helped her up on her seat and we all sat down to the dinner that I had cooked.

"Oh, babe. I forgot to tell you."

"Tell me what?"

"Mr. Thomas wants me to work an extra shift tomorrow. Do you have to work late?"

The name Thomas stuck out to me.

"Where have I heard that name before?" I asked Harry.

"You see it everyday on the way to the college. Thomas' Music Store."

"Yeah, maybe that's it."

I took another bite of my food as I looked over at Louis.

"Can you pick up Em tomorrow at school? I have after school detention and I think I'm gonna go see my mom."

"Yeah, of course. Emmalyn loves it when I pick her up? Don't you Emmalyn?" Louis said, looking over at Em. She giggled quietly and continued to eat her food.

The next day, after I finished up my detention shift, I decided to go and see my mom at my old house. It had been a while since I've gone to see her...

I walked through the door, hearing water running in the kitchen. I dropped my purse on the couch and walked into the kitchen to find my mother cleaning dishes.

"Hey mom."

"Hi baby!" she said excitedly as she dried off her hands and came over to hug me. I wrapped my arms around her frail body and hugged her close to me. She let go, smiling at me.

"My, my I must be getting old. Seemed like just the other day I was hugging you goodbye for prom."

I laughed quietly as we walked into the living room, sitting on the couch. Mom places her hands on my knees.

"How's my beautiful granddaughter doing? And that husband of yours?"

"We're doing good. Harry's friend is still staying with us, you know, the one that helped when Harry was in the hospital for those months."

"He's still with you?"

"He helps with Emmalyn. She really loves him," I said quietly.

I decided to just jump in at the reason I was here.

"Mom?"

"Yes dear?" she asked, looking at me curiously.

"What was dad's last name?"

She laughed quietly and looked at me, something hidden in her eyes.

"I knew you were going to ask one day."
