Once I lost Chad, I realized very quickly that this " virus" was going to get worse before it got better. I also realized I was on my own. Everything spun out so quickly. Its crazy just how fast. I remember briefly hearing something on the news. There was a new virus outbreak at the hospitals. They kinda blew it off and said the symptoms are completely different then the common cold. You get cravings for red meat, your eyes may look bloodshot, you run a fever and in severe cases, your skin color goes a greyish tint, But those were only the severe cases. Drink plenty of fluids and get lots of rest. I blew it off thinking about how I lived through the swine flu, and the bird flu. I wasn't worried about this one.

I watched these things roaming around. At first it was a few, and then there were more and more. Before I knew it, there was more of them then us. Within a few weeks, we were completely overrun.

I remember when I realized just how bad the "virus" had gotten. It was only about two weeks after the initial strand was found at the hospital. It really hadn't gotten bad yet, or so I thought. I watched three of them go after some woman. This woman, she had to be in her early 40s. She was walking her little dog. It looked like a Yorkie or something. She was a cute little thing, her nails were painted bright pink and she had a cute matching bow on the top of her head. I was daydreaming, staring out the window, not really thinking about anything in particular. I seen them start to close in on her, but I was still in my own little trance. I heard a low rumble, kind of like a half moan, half growl but I really wasn't paying much attention . When she screamed bloody murder that's when I looked up. Before I could react, they were on her.

All three were tearing her to shreds. I watched one sink its teeth into this poor womans throat. When it ripped her throat out, her screams stopped. Nothing was left but a gurgling noise. I screamed out my window and they stopped and looked at me. But they just went right back to eating her like she was some God damn steak!

One of them had his stomach ripped out! His intestines poured out and his face was a grey tint. The other one had a huge gaping wound on her arm that was pouring blood, and the whole side of her face was missing. The other guy looked to be around his mid 40s. He was missing an arm and half his jaw was ripped off. I couldn't believe what I just saw. What the hell was going on? No one could survive their wounds and live. Could they? After they finish their meal, they simply shuffled away, moaning like nothing happened.

I watched this woman die right in front of me and could do nothing for her. I watched her take her last gurgling breath. She lay motionless on the sidewalk. I was in total shock! My mind starts to race trying to comprehend what I just witnessed. Then after what seemed like eternity, her hands started to twitch. I instantly think its the nerves in her system reacting to such a traumatic death. Then she sits up and starts to look around, moaning. What the fuck is going on around here? This woman is dead, I watched her take her last breath. Didn't I? She slowly stands up and looks as if she is disoriented. She slowly looks around and starts sniffing the air.

During the initial attack, the dog starts to run away but slowly stops and turns around, not sure what to do. She was watching her human companion get brutally murdered. Once she stands up, the dog slowly walks back over to her whimpering. She starts circling around her owner crying. The woman now is moaning so loudly its drowning out the crying whimpers of her little dog.

She growls at the dog and trys to snatch her. She dodges her owners bloody claws, and runs crying. She is still unsure what to do. You can tell by the way she was behaving that she loves her owner but knows something isn't right. I scream out the window for the little dog to run and head for my door, but the woman couldn't run as fast as her dog. Her leg has huge holes in it. You can almost see the bone if it wasn't bleeding so damn bad. Her throat is ripped out, and half the side of her head is missing. She has a huge hole in her side where some of her organs are starting to fall out.

I run down my stairs taking two steps at time, screaming for the dog the whole time. I finally get to the main doors and see the woman still chasing the dog. They seem to be running around in circles. That poor dog looked so confused. I scream for the dog, and she comes running toward me. Her zombie owners not far behind. I snatch up the little dog and slam and lock the doors behind me. The woman is still heading toward the door, until a scent catches her attention and she spins around and heads into the opposite direction.

I fly up the stairs, still taking two or three at a time with the little dog firmly in my grips. It all happened so quickly that once I'm back into my apartment, I have to sit down and collect my thoughts. When reality hits, it hits me hard. It hit me like a ton of bricks and I can feel the nausea coming at a quick pace. My stomach is turning so bad that my mouth starts watering and I know its not gonna be long. I run into the bathroom and start throwing up. I can't get the visual of all four people out of my head. I'm kneeling in front of the toilet, retching up my afternoon lunch. This little dog is sitting next me, tail slightly wagging with her head cocked side ways. She looks as confused as I feel.
