Angelo Evans was sitting cross-legged on his bed, his laptop on his lap, as he typed rapidly on the gadget in front of him while his stereo blasted out Demi Lovato's album, Here We Go Again.
His head moved along to the beat of Remember December that he didn't hear that his Mom was calling his name by his door.
His mom, Jasmin, knocked louder and at the same time called his name louder too.
"Angelo, will you please shut that thing off? Your stepdad is having visitors tonight and dinner is just about to be done in a few minutes," Jasmin shouted from the other side of the room.
Angelo rolled his eyes at the sound of his Mom, but obliged and turned down his stereo by a few volume. He loved his Mom dearly, but he didn't know how someone like her marry some asshole like Ryan, his stepdad. He didn't even know what she saw in him. All he knew was that one day his Mom was pregnant and they decided to marry each other.
Ryan was your typical stepfather. Mixed with a stepmother's evil traits, and voila! Welcome to Angelo's cinderella story, except that he had two half siblings, one boy and one girl - one of which was a down syndrome, who he loved dearly.
Angelo closed his laptop, placed it on his study table and decided to start changing. He settled for a grey v-neck t-shirt and grey joggers, since the dinner was inside their house. He didn't think it was necessary to dress up that nicely.
He turned off his stereo, grabbed his phone from his bed and went downstairs, just as the doorbell rang.
"Oh great, that must be them. Open the door, honey," Jasmin said as she popped her head by the kitchen counter. "I'm just adding some finishing touches."
"Did you seriously have to call me that?" Angelo cringed at the endearment, playfully gagged before he walked over and opened the door.
He was greeted by four people - one he knew and three others he didn't know.
"Hey kid, where's your mom?" Ryan greeted with a nod and a grin that was all too familiar.
"Hey Ryan," Angelo greeted back with a forced smile.
"These are my friends since high school," Ryan gestured towards his fairly handsome and good-looking friends behind him and introduced them one-by-one.
"This is Marvin," he gestured to the short cute man, who wore a pink polo shirt, waved hello and smiled at Angelo.
"This one here is my man John, he obsesses over Harry Potter too, just like you,"
The said guy nodded and asked, "do you wanna hear a HP joke?"
"Sure, give me your best shot," Angelo sai, grinned nicely at the man and took note that he had the best fashion sense out of the four men.
"Do you know why professor Snape was not teaching Herbology in Hogwarts?" John asked and smiled, while the others just groaned and complained.
"Not that one again," the last guy who had not been introduced yet said, and Angelo noticed that he might not be the best dressed man out of the four of them, but he was definitely the most gorgeous man he had ever laid eyes on.
But he shook his head out of the gutter and asked John why.
"Because he couldn't keep his Lily alive!" John exclaimed.
Angelo chuckled softly and was impressed, so he said to Ryan, "wow, I didn't know you had cool friends."
And then he said to John, high-fiving him, "that was amazing. I actually hadn't heard of that one before."
