(MUSIC IS LET YOURSELF SKYFALL)She fell. She fell into the pool. At first, I hadn't seen her fall. I was too busy making breakfast for Marshall's girls. But then Whitney screamed. I ran outside.
My baby. She was floating. She was motionless. I couldn't think, I felt numb. I felt sick. I ripped my cardigan off and dived into the water. The water was freezing, goosebumps plunged from my arms. I swam for her, I grasped her and hauled her to the side. I pulled her out of the water.
I dragged her across the grass and pressed down on her chest in the professional rhythm of thirty compressions. I opened her mouth and breathed into her mouth. I continued with the compressions as Alaina called an ambulance.
I cradled her in my arms and stroked the hair away from her face.
"Come on baby, come back. Come on, you're strong baby please." I muttered to her softly.
I hadn't even noticed Marshall's arrival. I didn't feel his hands against my skin, I was too cold.
When the ambulance did come, I felt light headed stepping into the warmth. But I wouldn't let my girl go. She was alive, she had to be.
I sit here, a blanket around my shoulders as a nurse shines a torch light in my eyes. I'm naked under this blanket, it's burning my skin. Samantha is in a different room to me. But I can hear her heart beat. They've managed to wake her up, but they're just testing her now.
They say she has a cold.
I hope so.
I hold the cold metal around my neck; the Christmas present from my baby girl. The gold chain is still spotless, and the circle pendant is in between my fingers.
"Mrs. Watson? You have a visitor." A doctor says, he's stood in the doorway. A mop of grey hair plopped on his head messily. The nurse steps back.
"You just need to stay warm Ms." She nods and steps out with the doctor.
Marshall steps into my room, a hoodie in his hand and a duffle bag in the other. He puts them both on the floor and walks to me. He cups my face in his hands; his hands are firry compared to my icy cheeks.
I look up at him,"I'm so sorry."
"Hey hey, what for?"
"I almost lost her Marshall! She could've died!" I burst out into tears.
"Hey! She isn't dead! Snap out of it! You did your best!"
"I shouldn't have let her go!" I yell back at him.
"For fucks sake McKayla just stop! Stop!" He takes my shoulders and holds me at arms length. "Stop this now! Listen to me dammit!"
I shake as tears run down my cheeks,"You're hurting me."
"Sorry," he sighs and looses me, stepping back as pain clouds his eyes.
"Marshall just leave me alone," I mumble and hug the blanket around me.
He sighs,"There's some clothes in the bag."
I nod.
"McKayla."
I look up at him.
"I love you." He says before he walks out.
