Being Casey
Chapter 8: Unexpected
"I can't live without ya, I can't live without ya baby! Oh baby!" Taylor Swift and Tim McGraw blared from the radio, with Ethan and I, our terrible voices singing off key and really loud. But compared to Taylor Swift, my voice was angelic. He sat in the drivers seat with one hand on the top of the steering wheel and the other on the windowsill.
"The highway won't hold you tonight, the highway don't know your alive, the highway don't care if your coming home, but I do I do!" I sang at the top of my lungs. My white hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and what wouldn't go in way waving around my face.
I dug my hand into a bag of Dill Pickle and Ranch seeds in my lap, eating them and throwing the shell out the window. Ethan on the other hand, guzzled a Mountain Dew and scarfed down a pack of Swiss rolls.
"Pig! Thats your third pack of Swiss rolls! Save some for me!" I yelled at Ethan, who just shook his head and smiled. He reached his hand down and turned the station, cranking it up, Luke Bryan singing My Kinda Night. "Baby thats my kinda night!"
"You have your seeds! And besides, thats your third bag of seeds. Save some for me!" He said, mocking me.
"Jerk." I hardly whispered under my breath.
"Now thats not very nice Casey." He said seat.
"How did you hear-?" As soon as I asked that I knew the answer. I could do it to. A small ringing in my ears told me that a mosquito was buzzing on a back window. "Wolf hearing. Shit, I gotta remember that one more."
"Yeah, pretty much." He said. Ethan took his foot off the gas, pressed the break, and turned right.
"Are we almost there?" I asked. I didn't want to have no seeds left by the time we got there. And by the rate I was eating these things, I would run out in about, I'd say 10 minutes. At the max.
"We're here." He said, pulling onto a trail. I glanced at the trees, their shadows casing down on the ground, the branches moving as if they were dancing. I smiled.
"This is great." I said. I grabbed my door handle and stepped out of the SUV. I walked to the back and grabbed my Nike bag, it being stretched out almost to the max. Ethan walked back and took it from me.
"This isn't the campground. And I need to put somethings in that bag of yours." He said beginning to open my bag. I quickly snatched it from him.
"What exactly do you need to put in there?" I asked, zipping my bag back up.
"Like bug spray and the tent." He said, grabbing my bag back from me, opening it, shoving a bag, bottle and keys in it. He closed the bag and made his way to the front, locking the car and closing all doors. He jogged back to me.
"Ready?" He questioned.
I nodded and stepped away from the car. My head spun around to make sure there were no cars or people, then I jumped. As soon as I had made it to my wolf form, everything was more vibrant. I could smell the grass, the trees, the creek that was in the woods about a half a mile. I heard a howl and I took off running. Everything seemed to go in fast motion.
Ethan was running right next to me (a little behind, I was faster). I heard the rushing water and looked ahead. The creek was flooded and the gap to get across was huge. I howled as I ran and built up speed. I jumped the creek and continued running. I was still running when I jumped, landing on my two human feet softly.
I turned my head and saw Ethan in wolf form still. "Come here boy," I said in the nicest tone I could. Ethan trotted over and let me pet him. His fur was greasy and he smelled. "You need a bath."
