Ten minutes till midnight, Louis buried his face in his hands. He had to do this now or he would never summon enough courage ever again, not till next year.
"Get this done quick.", he muttered to himself as he stalked to Harry's bed in the tour bus. Trying to leave his mind as blank as possible, he couldn't risk a panicky thought slipping in.
All the lights in the bus were out and everyone was sound asleep after a long day. They didn't even bother to fool around after they got back on the bus. All exhausted and drained.
Eventually, he reached the bed with curtains drawn of privacy. Taking a breath, he pulled open the curtain. There was no turning back now.
Harry was sleeping with his mouth slightly open and a soft snore came out of it. He looked so peaceful and unbothered, too precious for the world. Louis hated to wake him up but, glancing at the clock, only five minute left, he shook his shoulders gently. The snoring halted and he turned, fluttering his eyes open. The first thing came in sight was Louis' small smile towering over him.
"Hey. Did I oversleep?", he asked, rubbing his eyes, guilt creeping in his eyes. Louis blinked, "No, no. No, you were just asleep for an hour." Harry nodded, sitting up, "So, what's up?", raising his eyebrows, fully awake.
Louis opened his mouth only to close it again, fiddling with his fingers. Harry smiled encouragingly and scooted to the side of the bed, beckoned him to sit down. He bit his lips and climbed onto the bed. He had stayed up all night talking with Harry like this before, but this time wasn't like the others. Louis was going to confess his love for Harry. As it was April fools, he could shake off the embarrassments of getting rejected by claiming it was a prank. Yes, he was a coward like that, but now time was ticking by.
Harry just sat there, staring into the darkness, deep in thoughts. He snuck a glance at him and made up his mind. There was no turning back.
"I may love what we're doing right now, you know, touring and singing to thousands of people.", he started reciting the script he'd written. Harry nodded and waited.
"And I may love all of the people we're doing amazing things with. Like the band, the crew.", his voice was getting softer, harder to hear.
"But of everything I love, family, friends, music, singing, and performing. With the world turning, sun rising, I think. I think.. ", he took a deep breath, "I'm in love with you. "
There was silence, so as he waited, his heart was beating out of his chest. But this quiet was tearing him into scatters. Did Harry hate him now? He panicked.
"So?", Louis breathed, couldn't bear the awkwardness. "Shh, I'm waiting.", Harry whispered. "For what?", Louis' head whipped up, surprised. But he didn't reply, so they just sat and waited in stiff.
A beep from Harry's watch signaled that April fools day was gone. Right after the beep, he turned and pulled Louis into a kiss. It startled the living life out of him so he stayed motionless, hands helplessly on his sides. Their kiss was as feverish as it was short. As Harry pulled away, leaving both of them eyes widened and cheeks burning.
"I'm waiting for midnight, so you're not allowed say that our love is a joke."
