Chapter 3
My eyes begin to droop when a blob catches my eye. As my eyes focus, the blob turns from a blob, to a blur, to a figure.
A girl. She's sitting on a fence, to the left of the field, her blue, glassy, unmoving eyes staring into space. The white flowery, dress contrasts with her red dolly shoes, as red as her hair. She's unmoving, her pale skin glowing in the sun. Panic rises in my body. What do I do?
I slowly stand up. I'm trembling by this point. I close my eyes, remembering where I am, the field. My feet find the floor again and suddenly I'm walking towards this ghost like figure with red hair.
The steps I take towards her are laboured and careful, over all the flowers blooming here. I suddenly stop, overcome with panic. What possessed me to even approach this girl in the field? Nothing. I was drawn to her, like a thread tugging me towards her.
My feet keep moving forward, my mind reluctant. My hand finds the fence and I begin to climb. I'm at least 4 metres away.
"Hello," the word slicing the silence. Nothing.
"Hey?" My words unsure, as I shorten the distance. Why, oh why am I here? Why didn't I just run back across the field and home?! But I'm drawn to this red haired girl sitting on a fence in the field behind my house. I'm drawn to her.
I'm only about 1 metre away now, my words clearer and louder the closer I get to Red. That's the name I've decided to give her.
"Hello? Can you hear me?" This time she replies, but in a almost unthinkable way. A piercing scream reaches my ears, almost deafening me. The birds stop, the trees stand to attention, and the once blue sky turns grey. I jump off the fence and run back to the gate, to my room, to safety. But I can't. I'm frozen still. A force is holding me back.
The world in front my blurs and I'm yanked upwards. I can't see what it is. Panic rises and I know I have to get out of this situation before I have a panic attack. The breaths I'm taking become screams for help.
