When Calysta awoke the next morning, she felt refreshed from her sleep. Sitting up and pulling the covers up to her waist, she began to wipe her eyes from the remainder of her sleepiness. The bright sun was shining in through the window, and a gentle breeze filled the room. All was peacefully in Thaera, except for the raging mind of Calysta.
Her mind was flooded with thoughts about the so-called planet Earth and her future soul mate. How would he have even gotten on Earth? Only Thaerians have I.D. tags at birth. And even so, how would he have changed since he got there?
As she stepped into the shower, she let the warm water hit her back and free her clouded mind. The steam was rising and hit the glass panels in little puffs. Calysta pushed the button near the showerhead and soap was lathered onto her body. The water washed off the remaining bubbles. After her hot shower, she wrapped her towel around her thin body and walked silently back into her room.
After a couple of minutes, she looked into the mirror and scanned her outfit. She was wearing some gray leggings with a simple faded gray tanktop. She was always bored of the same gray color and the same gray clothes, but her mind went on to think of more important thoughts, so it wasn't a big concern.
From her room, she could begin to smell the delicious scent of eggs and sausage, which she suspected was coming from the kitchen. Losing the battle of sleep and hunger, she trudged down the stairs, still wiping the sleep from her eyes.
Aerin and Vander already sat at the table, awaiting both Calysta and Matteo´s presence. They were both concerned about their daughter, but more concerned about her frightened reaction to the journey and its destination in itself.
They both looked up from their gazes as Matteo skipped happily into the dining room, a smile upon his chipper face and his blue eyes gleaming with excitement. He was always a cheerful lad, and never failed to deliver the happiness.
"What´s for breakfast?" he asked with a positive tone.
Aerin replied, "Oh, just some eggs and sausage with toast. That is all the nutrition panel gave us for this morning." She looked back down into her coffee cup, blankly.
They sipped their coffee silently and Matteo began to wonder about the silence that filled the room. He wondered why the anticipation was starting to grow, until his not-so-little-anymore sister walked in. Because he was only a couple years older than her, he began to look up to her even though she was younger.
She had a pained expression on her face that looked as if it could not be removed. She froze at the end of the staircase once she realized that everyone had their eyes directed at her. It was a deja vu of some sorts, to the memory of yesterday and how everyone was shocked at her destination. She looked around hopelessly, as if looking for an escape from the agony of her feelings. Nevertheless, she sat down with the company of her family, hoping that they did not realize her pain and stress.
Matteo was heartbroken at the sight of his poor sister, having to deal with all that anxiety. For he had not had to deal with such feelings himself. When he was her age, his mate was only a couple hundred miles away, instead of being at a whole different planet. He reached out to hug her. As he wrapped his arms around her torso, she did not hug back. She simply sat there, her gray lifeless eyes staring out into oblivion.
After pulling back, he was only more concerned about her than before. He longed to get a reaction from her, to know that she really was okay and that she was not as depressed as she seemed. He watched as his parents felt the same, as his father set down a plate of breakfast before her. At first she was tentative, and did not uncross her arms at the sight of her meal.
"Come on dear, at least have a bite. We know what you are feeling. Please just for us?" Vander tried to encourage her.
She began to rage, as she lifed her fork to take a bite. The anger began to bottle up inside her, as her hand began to shake. Filling her mouth with the charred sausage, she swallowed quickly and stood up, pushing out her chair behind her.
