It starts off with a beautiful girl making freinds with a poor boy thats really fascinated in playing karuta(a Japanese card game) and there's another boy that teases her for actually talking to the poor boy but she doesn't care .Then the really poor boy teaches the girl how to play karuta. However the mean boy who's good at playing it takes the poor boys glasses so then the girl has to take over his match against the mean boy. She then wins however the mean boy then admits to taking his glasses, but the three of them then become best friends ,kinda. Then the poor boy moves, leaving his two friends behind. Then years past as the girl then becomes more beautiful and once everyone sees her personality they then say her beauty is in vein. That's just a small detail though. However her and the mean boy that are close friends make a karuta club to train and become the king and queen
Their the best karuta players ever. However did I mention that the three friends made a promise before the poor boy left to become the best karuta players. The two boys know that there can only be one king so they have to compete for the position but, is that the only thing they compete for? After years of becoming better and facing many challenges they then run into their old freind again that moved away, and he's a different person who doesn't play karuta again So what are the girl and the mean boy gonna do to convince him he's making the wrong decision Then the challenges keep tugging on the three friends as new things happen and more conflicts face them. I loved this anime please take a look at it .
