I've always wanted an adventure. Maybe it be love, mystery, or just simply a fun night with friends. I wanted to fall in love with the boy of my dreams and not have any problems, but Hollywood films don't really take reality in to question when weighting screen play. I understand I'm only in the first semester of my third year of high school but, lots of my friends have had adventures. I wouldn't really call all of them friends, mostly acquaintances. Friends or not everyone had adventure except for me. It was the same thing every day. I was just going through the motions until collect came. I already had some noticing me. I loved cooking so I was wanting to go to culinary school. I had all of my plans laying out for the future. Nothing was going to stop it.

Unexpectedly something major changed the whole route I had carved to my future.

It was a Sunday afternoon, I was working at dairy freeze in town. It's a little restaurant that's been in town for a while. This town was small enough. Yadkinville was a town where you know everyone and everyone knows you.

Cassidy and Emily had came by to see me for my break. We sat outside at the labels that where made of cement and where always cold. The autumn air blew as we   talked giving us a little chill, but still warm enough for a thin jacket.

"So, what do you wanna do for your birth day tomorrow? " cassidy asked excitedly. At least someone was.

"Ya know, I don't really care what we do. It's not gonna be any different than any other day. " I said kind of harsh as I threw a fry onto the red basket that all food was served in.

"You really should stop thinking like that D. Your adventure will be here soon. I promise." Emily replied. Even though she said she promised I knew that she wasn't sure.

"I know Em but, I still have the save day over again. I need some excitement. " I said meaningfully.

"Oooooh! Look D look!" Emily shouted slash whispered as she pointed. It was Conner. Conner O'Brian. He was walking up to the outside window. I turned to look at him and his eyes caught mine. I could feel my face burning red. He waved and I waved back. Conner was amazing. We where friends, but not like best friends. We texted but never flirted. One, I didn't know exactly how to flit. Two, he wasn't interested. As much as I wanted him to be, he wouldn't be.

"Yea I know, he comes every day. But guys I have to get back to work." I said wanting to get back to work.

"Okay D we'll see you later at practise right?" Cassidy questioned.

"Yea I'll be there. I don't want to get kicked off of the team." I said laughingly.

"Yea that wouldn't be good." Em said then her and cassidy turned and started to walk to Emily's car.

I started towards the back door to get back to work.

"Hey Dakota! Hurry up! We have lunch rush coming soon!" Jim my boss was rushing me as  usual. It was Sunday and churches would be letting out soon. Witch I wanted to go to other than work.

I hurried to the window to call someone's number.

"Number 36!" No one seemed to hear me. "Number 36!"  I said again more loudly. Finally Simone came to the window. It was Conner.

"Hey shorty. Did you cook this?" He said aggravatingly.

"No. Shelly did." I said with short sentences. "You should listen better. You'll get me behind. "

"Well then! You're sassy and short." He said then I cut him a look. "I should leave"

"Yes, you should." I replied. "See you tomorrow" I said hinting for him to go now before Jim came over to fuss.

"Yea, do you work tomorrow too?" He said curiously

"No, tomorrow is my birthday so Shelly said she'd take my shift."

"Oh, I forgot that it was tomorrow. Sorry." You could hear it in his voice. He really was sorry.

"It's okay but I have to get back to work." I said hurriedly.

"Okay D, smell ya later!" He said teasingly.

"You're seriously ten Conner!" I teased back. He stuck his middle finger up as he walked away. I laughed.

The rest of my shift was rushed as churches let out. After they where all gone my shift was about over. Then Matt showed up. He was ones of my best friends.

"Hey D, how has your day been so far?" He asked.

"Tiring. What about yours?"

"Exciting!" He said with a grin on his face.

"Why so exciting?" I asked "wait can you text it to me later Jim's coming towards us." He shook his head and walked took his car.

"Dakota, go home or clock out. I'm not paying you for more hours than I scheduled you for." He said harshly. I shook my head. Then clocked out, and made hotdog, fries, and a banana split. I bagged the food and filled up three cups of drink. Then headed out.

"Bye Jim! See you Tuesday after school!" I shut the door and pressed the button on my car key to unlock it. I sat the food in the passenger side seat, then took off my apron. I put it there too.

I drove down the road where my mom worked at. It was this nursing home that I had spent a lot of time at when I was little. It had to be closer to her lunch break so I took the food in. I found her in the lunch line about you get her lunch.

"Mom!" She turned and I held out the bag to her. She smiled and walked over and took the bigger bag.

"You don't have to get me do food all the time." She said caring.

" I know, but I also happen to know that the goods here isn't that good." I said with a smile. "I'd stay but I have target practise at two."

"Okay then sweetie. I'll see you later then" she said and gave me a hug.

"Bye mom." Then I walked out the nursing home.

When I got home I handed my dad the banana split and Dr pepper. He apparently had no words for me. He never does.

I went to my room and got ready for practise. I pulled my boot cut jeans from their place in my dresser. I found my favorite black T-shirt freshly washed on my bed folded. I peeled off my work clothes and pulled on the fresh ones. I pulled the black hair tie out and my blonde hair bounced down on to my shoulders. I brushed the sandy blonde curls and then but them back up. I washed my face and freshened up. I put my boots on and pulled my jeans over them. Before leaving I pulled on my camouflage coat and zipped it up and walked out the house again.

The chill of September wind blew my ponytail around as I got of the car and pulled my 12 gage out of the trunk. Em and cassidy where already here and practising.

"Hey guys!" I shouted so they would hear me.

"Hey D!" They shouted back in unison. I walked to the spot next to cassidy and got in position.

"Is coach here yet?" I asked.

"Not yet, I think he said he'd be later today than usual." Cassidy replied.  I shook my head. We didn't talk for a little while. We shot, reloaded, then we repeated. It was a slow day, very slow.

I couldn't wait to get home.
