Practise was cut short because of couch Damon having car trouble and the wind speeds. I could feel a headache starting behind my eyes. I took a fast shower so that my head would stop hurting. When I got out it was too hot in my room so I depended on my grey camisole and leggings to cool me off.

I sat on my bed to finish some home work before falling asleep. I was in the middle of a math problem when my mom entered my room. She had been at the grocery store when I got home. It never fails, she always goes to Food Lion for something.

"I got your birthday present today." My mom said sweetly. Cristy Phillips, she was the best mom that I could have.

"Mom, I told you not to worry about it. I didn't want you to spend money on me that we don't have. Does dad know?" I was worried. He's always spending money on weed and nothing on my brother and I. At least my brother got out of this house.

"No, I hid it from him. I can't believe he has gotten so strict about you even getting anything for your birthday. He pisses me off." I could hear pain in her voice. The relationship between her and my dad was rough. She loves him but wants to leave him. But I can't exactly blame her. I love him because he's my dad and we used to have a good relationship but he ruined that.

"I know mom, me too. Can we talk about this tomorrow. I have to finish this homework before school." After saying it I knew it hurt her. I just can't listen to how much he hurt her. She says she wants to leave him but never does. It hurts me because they fight a lot. That's why I work most of the time.

"Yea sweetie. I'll see you in the morning." I could see how much I hurt her. Guilt filled my stomach.

I nodded and she shut the door behind her.

"God let this birthday be good." I said to myself with a sigh.

My phone sounded with violins. The screen read Connor. Knowing that he probably just wanted homework answers, I threw my phone back down on the mattress. Then of course, my phone dinged. He texted.

Conner: You can't ignore me forever.

Me: No but I can try.

Conner: True but you can't stop me from calling till you answer me.

Me: Whatever. Haha

He didn't text back. I glanced at my phone every minute. Maybe Em and cassidy where right. I did want him to be mine but I'd never admit it to them. Even though they knew it already I still refused. I glanced at my orange alarm clock. It was 11:59.

My phone rang again. It was Conner again. This time I answered.

"Happy birthday!" Conner yelled very loudly. I glanced at my clock again. It had just turned 12:00 am. I was officially seventeen.

"Thanks" I said with a laugh. "I figured you would have for forgotten my birthday by now."

"I don't forget special things D." He replied seriously.

"Whatever you say. But don't left that feed your ego." I said jokingly.

"Sure, what do you want for your birth day? I can pick it up on the way to school tomorrow." Why's here being so serious? This is scary. I couldn't control the questions going through my head.

"Um, I don't know. I don't usually get that much stuff. I never know what I want." .... I want you... I couldn't help the thought.

"That sucks. I'll find you something and it will be perfect." You could hear the sincerity in his voice.

"Okay. So what happened to that girl at school that you where talking to? Did she find out how much of an idiot you are?" ... How wonder full you are...

"Yea, I don't know if it was the choo choo noises I made while I put the fork to my mouth or the fact that I sung the theme song from the ninja turtles that made her realise." He always knows how to make me laugh.

"Oh ma gosh! Your so stupid." I said while holding back a giggle.

"Nah, she wasn't that other girl." Her had been keeping this girl secret. Here said he hadn't talked to her yet because he was scared that she'd never want to talk to him again.

"Oh, right the one that you're too chicken to talk to." I teased.

"Shut up!" He said defensively.

"Haha. I like aggravating you"

"Ha-ha-ver-y-fun-ny" he said breaking up the words.

"I have to go to sleep. It's late. 6:30 comes early." I said with a yawn.

"Okay good night D. I'll see you tomorrow. Sleep good." He said sweetly. Then I pressed end. And with that I had fallen into a dream.

I was right. 6:30 came really early to me. I pulled myself out of bed and my feet hit the freezing hardwood below me. I hurried to my dresser for the warmth of my jeans. Pulling them on felt like the heat coming from a fire. I finished the outfit with a red flannel and combat boots. My hair always had long curls. I decided to pin them up and put some makeup on.

I had to leave the house at seven to take my mom to work. I didn't mind taking her to work, but it's hard. She doesn't have a car to drive herself to work. Dad won't let it happen. He doesn't trust her.

"Mom come on mom! We need to be going!" I said as I walked fast out of my room. Only to see a man standing in the kitchen with his arms open. My big brother. I ran to him and gave him a hug.

"How are you?" I said excitedly. After he went off to the army he only called every other day. Then it turned into every other week. Then two weeks. The person I spent almost all my time with became the person I talked to most less.

"Pretty good. But don't worry about me. Happy birthday sis!" He said with that southern draw. He pulled pulled followers from behind his back along with an envelope. My name was scrawled across the front. I opened it and found money inside.

"Three hundred dollars. I- uh.. Thank you, really. But this is too much Cams. I can't accept this." I said meaningfully.

"Yes you can cause if you don't take it then I'll transfer more to your bank account. Don't mess with me." Her said making me laugh. About that time another person came in. She was dressed in the same camouflage uniform as my brother. She had her brown ha shift pulled into a thought bun. "Oh Yea sis this is my girl friend Shay. Shay this is my little sister Dakota."

"Cams she's even prettier than you said." She said to my brother. I already didn't like her. I call my brother Cams not her. They must have saw that I was not happy. My brother shot her a look as if reminding her I called him that and only me. "Cameron I want to meet your mom and dad, may I ?"

All I could think was how long she was going to ruin my birthday by taking all of his attention.
