After sitting back down in the living room, they both went silent for a moment.
"Who was that?" Kellin asks, curious.
"My cousin as usual. Who else wants to talk to me.." I roll my eyes for dramatic effect.
We sit in silence for a good five minutes... Until Tyler looks a me and says,"Want to hang out at my place for a bit?"
I stand up, nodding. I face Kellin. "Is it okay if I go?"
"...Are you sure?" He looks paranoid.
"What do you mean?" I sit down by them.
"I mean... The stuff that happened with your cousin. And your side and stuff. You dont need to get hurt again." He faces me.
"Aha. I'll be fine, don't worry-" Before I could finish, Tyler started talking.
"No. Why should it be up to you if she goes or not?" I already know where this is going...
"Could you just understand what happened? I just want her to be safe." Kellin came back just as snarky.
I put my head in my hand. "Come on! She's 17. She's old enough to make her own choices." Tyler says, obviously aggravated.
"If you have an issue with me being worried, you can leave. Okay?" Kellin sighs, muttering something under his breath.
"It's not a matter of you being worried. The point is, it's not your choice either way. It's hers." Tyler raised his voice which also caused Kellin to. Soon enough, they're just yelling at eachother
Over... Me?I end up being fed up with the situation. I stand up to face both of them. "GUYS!!"
They both shut up to glare at eachother. "You're arguing over something useless. Just let it go..."
"No, we aren't. We're arguing over you. I just want you to stay safe." Kellin says, in a hushed voice.
"You think she won't be safe hanging out with me?" Tyler says, obviously a small bit offended.
"I'm not saying that. You're putting words into my mouth. I'm just stating that if she's here or with me, at least I can make sure everything is okay." He sighs deeply.
"But that's not your choice. She's pretty much old enough to make her own choices." Tyler replies.
"You know what? I'm just gonna go to my room until you guys are done arguing." I storm off, into my room.
I sigh, knowing one of them will probably be up here any minute now. I sit down on the bed. I put my face down into my pillow. Not even my friends can get along. They're arguing over me.
Why me? Of all the things they could possibly argue about, it's me.
I can't even help the situation. This really feels like my fault. But about two seconds later, someone knocks on the door, as I predicted.
"Come in." I don't move my head from the pillow. I hear the door open and close, and light footsteps walk into my room. I feel someone sit down at the end of my bed. "Who is it?" I say, muffled into the pillow.
"Guess." I hear Tyler's voice say. I sit up and crawl over to sit by him.
"Is it... Oprah Winfrey?" I say, laughing.
"W-What? No!" He starts laughing too.
"Well you told me to guess." I say happily.
"You're a dork." He laughs again. Then we sit there for a minute until he speaks again. "God... I never knew he would be so self centered."
I sigh, understanding both of their sides. "He just wants me to be safe. I agree with both of you. I am old enough to make my own decisions. But... I'm living in his house. I need to respect that. Besides, he's only doing it for my safety. It's not like he's trying to be rude."
"I guess. But you're almost 18. You should really be able to do what you want without someone telling you otherwise." I nod, in a slight bit of agreement.
"I guess so... But I think it's kind of nice he's worrying. At least he cares." I poke him. "But anyways. Where were you wanting to go?"
He stands up. "If he lets you even go, I was going to suggest the mall, or anywhere really. Since we haven't talked in years."
I sigh at the emphasis put into the first few words. "I can ask. Can I talk to him alone for a minute?" I ask, standing up.
"Don't ask me. That's up to you!" He waits in the room as I close the door behind me. I look over the railing to see Kellin sitting there with his head in his hand.
I slowly creep downstairs and poke him from behind. He slightly jumps and then looks at me. "Hi!" I sit down beside him.
He stays quiet for a minute, gathering his words. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to start any fight with your friend. I was just worried because you haven't really been out of the house other then when you took the walk there. I just don't want you getting in danger of any kind." He looks down, seemingly ashamed.
"Don't be sorry! I understand your point. Thanks for caring. I'll be careful. Okay?" I give him a reassuring smile.
"Okay." He smiles back. I reach my arms out to hug him. Then he hugs me for a moment before he says something else. "In the short amount of time you've been here I already start to think of you as a sister or something. Like a cute little sister." He nuggies my head, laughing.
I pull away quickly, laughing. "Okay, okay!" I stand up and run to my room.
I open the door and see Tyler still where he was. "Ready to go?" I say, with a smile.
