Chapter 1: Birthday Bash

You ever have just a really shitty day? One that was supposed to be perfect and exactly like you imagined in your head, then watch as the whole thing goes south? Yeah, that would be today. Honestly the day was going really well, and it took one moment to change it. You ever get that feeling in your chest right before something bad happens? The feeling like a rock was placed in your chest and you suddenly lost your breath? That is exactly what happened. There is normally a single moment in time, a moment that changes everything. A loved one dies, or an expecting mother gives birth to her long awaited child. This moment can either make or break you. Mine? It destroyed me.

It was November 2nd, a Friday, and it was my sixteenth birthday. Usually a sixteenth birthday is to be celebrated with all your closest friends, have a big party, get an amazing car from your parents and maybe kiss the hot guy you have a crush on that sits 3 rows ahead of you in math class. It's a time to be celebrating you as you are becoming women, that people will finally start listening to you and taking you seriously. That's exactly what today was. It is my dream party, one you would only dream of or see in a movie. My parents has rented out a huge venue space in a hotel ballroom and decorated it wall to wall with purple streamers, amazing detailed designs and a stage for a live band to play. Everything was set! All my friends where here, even people from school I had never met before!

All I knew was the entire room was filled with dancing teenagers and they were all here for me. Well, me and the booze that was apparently snuck in. I didn't really care where the drinks came from, I just wanted this night to be memorable, a perfect day for me.

In the past I've had other birthdays before, and sure they were okay, but I always had something that ruins my day. From a drunk clown to the kitchen in my house setting fire because the candles on my cake where joke candles we couldn't put out. This year though I vowed I would not let anything stop me from having the best party ever. The band that was playing was a local group of seniors from my high school who had formed an alternative/pop punk band together, and surprisingly they were pretty good, aside from their name, "Crispy leaks." It sounds like a rusty old pipe in an old abandoned house that still leaks from time to time.

I had begun searching the crowd for familiar faces and as soon as I had spotted the two faces I was looking for I begun dancing my way through the crowd to them. I was being pushed and pulled from all angles til I had finally made my way out from the mob. I was about 3 feet away when I just happened to find the gigantic power cord that led its way to the stage. By "find" I really mean tripped and fell face first onto the wooden floor.

"Oh my god! Vivan!" Lea had shouted over the pounding music.

"Hey there's a cord there," Maxine had said laughing.

These where my so called "best friends," Lea and Maxine. We had been together since diaper days, and they where my rock, but they will always be the first ones to call me out on my mistakes and the first ill go to for a shoulder to cry on. Lea was crouching down to help me off the floor, her dark brown ringlets swaying about her face as she bent down to lend me a hand. She had the most beautiful olive colored skin, and freckles to compliment every feature on her face. We often called her our chocolate chip cookie. Then there was Maxine, tall with shoulder length black hair that made you jealous to even look at it. She had such a sculpted face and big smile that it could light up any room she stood in. She was clutching her drink tightly and laughing as I made my way off the floor.

"You are so helpful," I spat at her

"You love me," she replied lifting her drink to her lips.
