Chapter 2: We Are Family Now

My eyelids began to flutter, and I stretch a bit lazily before settling back down into the same position I was in. I was resting peacefully before the memories of what had happened began to flood my mind. My eyes snapped open to see nothing but darkness that swallowed me whole. I wasn't able to see where I was even after my eyes adjusted to the dark, but I was able to feel the area around me. It was soft and firm; a bed or a mattress at least. I mustered all my strength to sit upright; my head still dizzy and a bit sensitive. The mattress I was sitting on was just that, a mattress on the floor. No bed frame to hold it up, no head board, just a bare mattress with no sheets or even a blanket.

The air surrounding the room was cold and still, and the floor was cold to touch. I looked around to try and see any bit of light, any signs of life or even a door. It was still impossible to see anything. I push my hand outward and found a wall. The wall was cold, but I used it as leverage to stand up. I decided to travel the room as best I could for a way out. I started walking the length of the room, each step a small one, using the wall as my guide.

It seemed like an eternity of walking until my hand ran over what felt like a switch. I immediately flipped the stick into the on position, and the room lit up with an ugly florescent light. The room was a small space, with white walls that had dark stains every few feet from each other. In the corner was the mattress I was laying on. About the size of a twin bed, lying on the floor with what looked like dark dirt and other mysterious stains on it. There were no windows in the room at all, which is what made it so dark.

I turned behind me to see a door with an odd silver handle. The handle came out from the door and immediately curved in a spiral at the end. I grabbed at the handle and began trying to open the door, pushing and pulling, but the door wouldn't budge.

'Of course' I thought, whoever it was that had taken me was making sure I wasn't going to find my way out. I started the pound on the door, yelling out for someone to open it, to let me out. I kicked and punched at it until my knuckles began to bruise. I felt tears arise in my eyes as I silenly started sobbing. I continued rapping on the door while crying out as my tears blinded my vision. I

I turned and rested my back against the wall, slowly sinking down to the floor, bring my knees to my chest and slowly started praying, "Dear lord, please, all I wanted was one day for myself to go well. I'm sorry for anything I've done to deserve this. I need you to show me a way out so I can get home to my family. I'm so scared and I don't know what to do. Help me please," I sobbed.

I had always been religious, I've gone to church ever since I was a child, I believed in a higher power and that everything happens for a reason, but this? This was evil.

During my sobs I began thinking about the party. Lea and Maxine are probably freaking out right now. I told them I would be right back and...what if I never get to see them again? The thought of never seeing them again haunted my mind. My parents; they were probably freaking out. They most likely alerted the police, sent the swat team out looking for me.

I remember there was once a time I was fourteen and Max and Lea where out at some college party and kept taunting me to come with them. God knows how they even found out about the party or even got there, but they insisted I come. Thinking nothing of the rebellion, I scaled my window down to the first floor and made my way to the address they had sent me. When I arrived the location was a frat house with 'Alpha beta psi' letters on the roof. There was loud thumping music blaring and drunk guys and girls running around yelling and doing the stupidest things. I made my way up the steps and into the house. It was mostly made of wood and immediately when you walk in you are greeted by a grand stair case that had several dozen people standing on and around it talking to one another or simply just drinking from red plastic cups.
