Alvin Murphy pt.2

 We finally made our way to the place we were supposed to go. The one in uniform got out of the truck, telling the other one to get back in. As the officer moved toward the building, gun in hand, the one I said looked attractive had his head out the window.

"Is it them?" he asks. No answer, he just keeps on walking. "Hammond, is it them?" So his name is Hammond. It took a minute, but he finally replied.

"Yeah." Then shot.

"I gotta pee." said the attractive looking man.

"Ugh," I said, a bit disgusted. We all began getting out of the truck.

"My reinforcements are dead," Hammond stated. "We need to make a quick search, for survivors and any supplies. You!" he shouted at the one I shall now call Pee Man. "Zip it up, and stay close to me."

"Hey, where'd all the Z's go?" Addy asked.

"Movin' on. Like locusts," Doc replies.

"Yeah, but they'll be back," Hammond states. "Garnett and Warren, you clear the building. And you four!" Hammond said, pertaining to Addy, Doc, Mac, and I. "Check the vehicles!" Everyone did what they were supposed to do. I turned and saw Warren taking a baby out of a car. My eyes widened. I walked over to them, and when I turned, Addy, Doc, and Mac had made their way to somewhere else.

"Why didn't you still with Addy, Mac and Doc?" Garnett asks.

"Sorry. The baby distracted me." Warren and Garnett look at each other. "Here, let me take it. You guys clear the building. I stay close behind." They nod and Garnett hands me the baby. Once the building is cleared, we meet back up with Hammond and Pee Man.

"Somebody better shut that thing up before it attracts Z's like flies," Pee Man said.

"Hey, Pee Man. It's a baby. It makes noise, okay?" He looked confused by the name I gave him, but was cut off by Hammond.

"Shut up. And do what you can, he's right about the Z's. By the way, his name is Murphy." I nod and try calming the baby down as much as possible. Hammond hands the new girl that Addy, Mac, and Doc found water, then hands the bottle around to everyone else. "Why would somebody lock you in a cage and leave you to die?" Hammond asked her. "What'd you do?"

"I didn't do anything. I locked myself in the cage for protection."

"You have the keys?"

"I lost them."

"Why are you dressed like that?" Warren asks.

"I don't have to justify myself-"

"Maybe you do!" Hammond yelled. "We were supposed to meet the men in those vehicles. What happened here?"

"Those men, showed up about a week ago. They cut out the school and set up some kind of camp. But word got out that there was food. Lots of it, from the bomb shelter. Yeah, it didn't take long. There was too many people. The soldier shot some of the locals and that brought the Z's. You can guess the rest." Murphy then steps in.

"What are we wasting time talking to her for, give her the baby, and let's go."

"You can't give this girl the baby and leave," I protest.

"Well they can't come with us," he replies.

"Listen," Hammond said.

"No way, am I leaving the baby and her behind," Garnett said. "It's not gonna happen."

"It's just, a baby. It's not like he's gonna grow up a be a fine young man some day," Murphy says.

"You know what, shut up!" Hammond says, pushing Murphy slightly. "We'll take em to the next safe outpost. God I hate moral dilemmas."

"Yeah, what's next chief? You want to start a College Fund for him?" Murphy sarcastically says.

"Puppies and Kittens a hundred yards away," Warren says. Puppies and Kittens is code word for Z's.

"Zombies," Garnett explains to the very confused Hammond.

"Alright," Hammond starts. "Everybody, time to go. You four," he says referring to the new girl, Mack, Addy, and Doc. "I want you to gather all the food and weapons you can find. Load em in that truck. The keys are still inside."

"Hey!" Mack yelled. Hammond looks at him. "We haven't talked about this."

"We can talk about it later. Right now you do what I tell you." They stare at each other for a moment, then Hammond turns. "Garnett. You stay with the baby, Ally and Murphy until we get back. Warren, you and I are gonna see if we can start up that duce in a half. Everybody meets back here in 5." He exited, as we all stood around. He comes back and yells, "Go!" Addy, Doc, and Mack look at Garnett for some sort of appraisal, and he nods.

"Do it," Garnett says. Warren and Hammond take their knives out, making their way outside.
