i loved the earth
of course i did
it was her that created
these fountains in my veins
and the overgrowth in my thoughts
i wandered in her gardens
and loved the dandelions and firs that grew there
it was there that i had spent my days
in a haze of young, brooding love
at night, however, when she was asleep
and the garden was quite still,
i woke in a midnight trance
and peered into the outer rim of our world
there i saw stars, comets, planets,
the universe itself perhaps
and my heart palpitations only grew
as the night sky bared herself upon me
but when morning came and you appeared again
there was no longer the enchantment, the wonder
that i had once felt at your mere presence
your gardens were just shrubbery
and everything else became everyday scenes
the love that welled up inside me for her
has sadly withered away during the night,
and a new love sprouted from my evergreen soul
for the space outside ours that is so filled with dreams
outer space
******the earth is now but a distant planet
i have long left her atmosphere
millions and millions of miles between us
and yet she haunts me still, in this cavity here
—
i've left earth
and went to mars
i've left her
and discovered the stars
