Smoke melts onto my sweaty skin. The dust in the air makes it hard to breathe, and the fire slowly heats up the space. Practically half of the warehouse ceiling collapsed, leaving a gaping skylight. The sun was high in the sky, it's light illuminated the inside of the building, but I still can't see any sign of people. I carefully make my way through the unsteady rockfall, fighting through the building pain crawling in my body. Every time I called someone's name, my throat became dryer and dryer. My brain began convincing me to give up and just look for an exit. I felt like giving into the temptation, when something caught my eye. Through a cloud of smoke and dust, a figure slowly approaches in my direction.
Tall, broad shouldered, a clear outline of a head, it must be a male. I can't see any distinct features about him, I don't know if he's a friend or not.
I ready myself for an attack. As the figure came closer, I started to recognize certain things about him.
Dark hair, a long, pale-ish face, and a dark trench coat reaching the figures ankles. Oh my god.
I immediately broke into a sloppy sprint. The figure froze and let out a long sigh of relief. For the first time in my whole life, I felt my guard completely wash away. "Amy!" I hear Sherlock call.
I respond with a giant smile of relief. I practically leap into his un-expecting arms. My arms wrap around his torso like nothing would break me from him. I feel his muscles tighten, and his breath stutters, and they suddenly relax and his arms softly wrap around me. Honestly, I've never understood the value of a hug until this moment, and so did Sherlock I think. We stay like this for what it feels like forever, but a good kind of forever. Suddenly, he holds my shoulders and stares deep into my eyes, his are big and full of concern. "What happened to you? Are you hurt? Have you seen the others?" His questions were rapid and his breaths quick."I'm fine!" Tears of relief stream down my face. "It's nothing I can't handle. I haven't seen anyone, have you?"
Instantly, a struggling scream echoed not far from us. Claire! We exchange glances, and move as quickly as we can towards the distress calls. Two new figures come into view, one on top of the other. The one pinned to the floor, Claire, is struggling with all her might to keep the arms of the other from choking her. I could tell from the skinny stature of the other figure that it's Stephen. "Traitor! Traitor!" His screams are painful to hear.
I sprint into action. My right arm winds up for a punch, but Stephen notices before I get to him. He grabs my arms, keeping Claire pinned with his feet and knees. I kick one arm free and knock him square in the jaw. He's stunned for a couple seconds, now's my chance! "Amy! Duck!" Sherlock and Claire say in unison.
I swing my head as far down as I can. An arm shoots past my ear and quickly grabs my shoulder. I'm tugged off of Stephen and kicked in the leg. Charles's eyes are animalistic like Stephen's. His arm moves from my shoulder to my neck. Almost instantly, I see Sherlock's arm shoot across and punch Charles in the face, knocking him off of me. As Charles falls to the floor, he drags Sherlock down with him, and they begin scrambling to get on top of each other for leverage. Claire swiftly picks herself off of the floor and grabs onto Stephen. I pick myself off the floor, and quickly observed the two battles taking place. Quiet footsteps approach behind me. I whip my head around and quickly grab an advancing arm with a small knife in its hand. Melissa's piercing green eyes almost put me in a trance. She tries to bring the knife into my shoulder, but I guide it to miss my body. She yanks her arm away from me and swings again, and again.
A full on brawl takes place. A group of allies versus a family. Insane versus equally insane. Stephen takes back his advantage on Claire while Sherlock and Charles exchange punches. I can't get anywhere with Melissa, I can just barely dodge her knife as it cuts through the air. My back suddenly rubs up against a large pile of rocks and fallen ceiling, I'm trapped.
Maybe I can make Melissa loose her footing and fall into one of those poles sticking from the chunks of building, somehow? Or I could try to slide under her? No, I'll be too venerable. Is this it? I've been kidnapped, tortured, survived two explosions, and was just reunited with my friends, and now I'm gonna die from a little pocket knife. There's some irony in that.
