Monday morning came too early, and I was stiff from sleeping on my right arm. My phone was wedged in my hand tightly as I had been engrossed in a rather long conversation last night. I moved sluggishly perching myself up my elbows I check the time, the bright screen read around 7:30 am. I lay there, still and relaxed taking in the realisation that it is morning.
There was a knock on the door, my mum entered the room in her pink robe And rabbit slippers with a coffee mug between her fingers. Cliche.
" Time to get up honey don't want to be late for your last day of school".
I groaned .
" I'll be up in a minute".
I moved lazily dragging myself into and out of the shower at a much slower pace than normal. My hair was still wet as I picked out my outfit.
I picked out a black crop top with white jeans and a Megan McKenna badged bomber jacket in Black. I settled with black Roshe runs I kept my makeup simple and natural as there would be a lot of irrelevant crying going on in the schools hallway today as we will depart for three months for summer holidays. To be honest I didn't want to waste my Rather expensive mascara on that. Money doesn't grow on trees you know.I skipped to breakfast in a hurry to get out of the house as quickly as possible. I chewed on my toast in a manner that would be completely unacceptable if my mum was here and downed my orange juice. I grabbed my bag and headed out whilst belting out my daily goodbye to my mum.
My feet collide with the pavement in rhythm as I made my way to my best friend's house which was a couple of doors down from mine. Jessica and I have been glued together since back in the Crayola and fruit juice days. Despite her boisterous, confident and outgoing ways compared to my shy low key and lazy self we managed to tolerate each other successfully for nearly 11 years.I reached Jess' door just as it was swung open by her rather intimidating older brother Jacob. Jake was a six foot tall zombie with only one Emotion. Anger. I'm surprised he hasn't roasted me yet, and trust me I have given him plenty of opportunities. He was followed by Jess who looked good, as always in black boots, jeans and a black singlet with a trench coat in pastel blue thrown over. Her curly black hair with brown highlights was tied into a high ponytail. She had a gold Michal kors watch on and her make-up was done flawlessly.
Jess was the reason, I actually leave the house looking decent everyday. She wanted to be a fashion designer, where as I was leaning more towards a doctor.
We entered her Brothers used down Honda and headed to school. It was quite sunny as it was the beginning of the summer season. Calvin Harris' 'Summer' was blaring out of the speakers. The vibes was unexplainable. I reached for my purse and took out the piece of paper me and Jess had written 2 months ago.
It was a bit crumbled due to it being folded continuously.Jess and Mackenzie's summer bucket list
Go shopping in times square
Go on a 3 day trip to Spain
Go bungee jumping
Go to a summer festival
Take a road trip
Have a summer fling (temporary: first one to fall in love loses)
Have fun
Get drunkI folded it back into my purse, just as we reached the school gates.
People were huddled around everywhere trying to get as much signatures for their yearbook as possible.
Jacob found a parking space and I jumped out of my seat alongside Jess. We were talking about our summer plans, just as a couple of girls approached us asking for our signatures. Everyone was trying to get last minute signatures in, since some couldn't reach everybody yesterday." Hey I'm just going to stop by my locker for a sec. I'll meet up with you In English" I told Jess as I pulled myself out of the huddle that had formed. She gave me a nod of approval.
As I made my way to my locker I received a text from my Dad.
Can't wait for you to visit New York. xxx
Having received that text made me smile. My summer was going to be electric. New York... Watch out.
