Chapter Ten: I Think We Fucked Up
•.⌯.•River's POV•.⌯.•
I watched the clock tick as I waited for the bell to ring for my last class of the day. I just wanted to get out of here so that I could finally start on my long awaited college applications that I have been procrastinating on. Just the thought of college stressed me out.I agree that in college I would be able to have more freedom in my schedule and be able to do more things with my life, but the idea of being an actual adult is so terrifying. Adulting in real life is a different thing than in the movies and I'm so not prepared to do what it entails.
The bell rings bringing me out of my thoughts. Picking up my things, I begin my decent to the front of the school. My mind was clouded with questions as I thought about college and what the future may bring with that path. I think I know what I want to do with life, but I still can't escape the anxiousness that the future brings me.
Ma didn't need the car today so I was able to drive to school. Heading towards my car, I am suddenly stopped by a huge force on my back. Staggering forward a bit by the sheer force of the person that bumped into me, I turn around, ready to unleash a whole round of yelling, only to be met by Spencer's figure laughing at my face.
"Dude, give a warning next time." I huffed as I pulled out my keys from my pocket, "What do you need Spence?"
He laughed, "Well, I saw you walking alone and I thought to myself: Grey must be very lonely. So then I put it upon myself to come up to you the only way I knew how.." He sighed to himself almost as if he was in a daze before continuing, "But also Arden didn't want to hang out with me and Ryan had plans to study with his math group. Charlie's being stupid and Elliot is with her girl friends. I just didn't want to be alone today and was hoping you were free." He pouted, stopping in his tracks to whine a little more.
I scoffed playfully at his tirade, "Oh, so what you're getting at is that I'm your last option?"
"Exactly!" He said, resolute popping a childish smile onto his face, "So please tell me you're free." Spencer begged as he tugged on the sleeve of my shirt.
"Oh my gosh. Well, I'm doing college applications right now. If you want to come do that with me, you're more than welcome to." I offered which caused him to immediately perk up in excitement.
"Hmm... You know what? I'll take you up on that offer!" He said cheerfully, "So where are we heading?"
"The coffee shop in the town? They have free wifi."
"Okay! I shall meet you there!" He said as he threw his keys in the air and catching them with one hand. He began making his way to his car before abruptly stopping in the middle of the parking lot that was still very busy with cars piling out of it. Getting a few honks from people who were trying making their way out, Spencer yelled out to me, "I have things to tell you when we get there."
I looked at him with a raised eyebrow letting a laugh escape my lips as I watched Spencer's head disappear into his Jeep.
What did I just agree to?
*
I looked up from my laptop only to find Spencer in front of me who was trying to make a house out of sugar packets. With his tongue out, he eyed the sugar packets in concentration, careful with his packet placement. Spencer had been doing this since we had arrived here an hour ago and during that hour, I had manage to finish my application to Cal-State schools and was a 1/4th of the way through my UC's.
"Um... Spence?" I spoke up catching his attention for a moment.
"Yes?" He answered looking at me for a second before reverting his attention back onto the house he had created.
