Chapter 1: To Rule? - Always

Hair - done, contour - done, eyeliner - done, eyeshadow - done, mascara done. Oh I almost forgot I glanced down toward the glimmering Chanel rouge coco lipstick, smiled, and applied stepping back when I was done admiring the matte neutral look I had gone for which perfectly matched my nude coloured nails which Penny and I had done yesterday. I looked at the girl staring back at me mimicking everything I did; how did I become her I pondered for a brief second the girl who people loved to hate, hated to love and wanted to be, me, the Queen Bee.

"Oi narcissus, you look at your at own reflection too much, who you trying to impress." Olivier my sarcastic heartbreaking brother said to me doing that frustrating smirk at me which somehow won over the entire female population at our school. Although he is a senior the higher years were merged at my school, so, unfortunately he was in my presence far too much for my liking.

"Honey, people try to impress me not the other way round." I retaliate in a sickly sweet tone with the most innocent smile that I can muster up spread across my face.

"Anyway breakfast is ready so hurry up - and find something to wear to school and not just that towel, I know you like to turn heads ... but seriously." He laughed at himself satisfied with his not-so-good-comeback and sauntered off.

Rolling my eyes I turned back to my reflection and inspected. I had done something different with my hair today I had straightened it and then pulled it back behind my head finishing with some shine adding hairspray giving it a general sophisticated yet Golden Oaks Queen vibe - it was the first day after all so I may as well start a new trend, no doubt it will become mainstream soon. Don't get me wrong while I am amused at people who copy my style, sometimes it gets a little difficult to express yourself when everyone tries to be you, impersonate you.

On my swarovski crystal encrusted wall length mirror there was a picture of Maria and I. It brought a smile to my face we looked so similar bright ocean blue eyes, blonde hair with subtle bronze highlights except Maria was in better shape than me, not anymore however, I had been fed up with being the ugly one. My smile faded don't think about her I thought to myself you don't need to put yourself through that today - or ever. Turning I headed towards my walk-in wardrobe.

I knew exactly what outfit I would pick I mean I did always like to dress to impress - not that I try to impress anyone, obviously. I walked towards my outfit for today a wine red high-waisted leather skirt stopping just above my knee which was paired with a sheer white lace blouse. I got into my clothes and slipped on my favourite brand new pair of black studded Louboutins walked to my mirror and smiled way to make a statement I was reminded of what Olivier said to me earlier thinking I will turn heads.

As I walked downstairs my mom cheerfully looked up her smile replaced with a disapproving look on her face. "Darcy Huntington that outfit will get you all the wrong attention"

"But mum I...I have to go otherwise I'll be late so I can't change" I semi whined and semi pleaded looking intently into her gentle emerald eyes.

"Fine, at least have some breakfast -"

A loud honk from outside cut her off followed by the tapping of heels and a squeal that had such a high pitch I knew could only emit from one person; Penelope Gold, my ride or die, one of my few true real friends, not an admirer, hater or follower but friend. "DARCY! Oh My God! I haven't seen you in like ages this is going to be the best year of our lives!" she grinned

"Penny, we saw eachother literally yesterday" I replied less enthusiastically, turning to my mum saying "love you, catch you later!

"Bye darling, have a great day, say hi to the girls for me and Drew" she paused "Or Antony or Blake or whoever it is your with now" chuckling to herself

"Mum! It's just a try before you buy type of scheme you know" I replied winking and laughing too

"And Darcy eat this, at least" she smiled chucking an apple at me

'At least' those two words which could be used in so many contexts stayed with me, making me flinch at the memories, the everlasting memories. Not now Darcy I thought turning to Penny hoping that neither of them had noticed me pause just for a second. Walking towards her, linking arms as I reached her; subtly placing the apple in the tall plant pot next to the large glass double front door.
"You ready?" she asked
"What to rule?" I flashed a smile "Always."
