- This is a later part of the story.
As Sophie fell towards the pit crawling with hungry black flames, she thought of everything she had gained in the last few months and her old and new life. Blurring tears clouded her view of the sky and probably the last small beam of sunlight she would ever see. Her whole body was numb, but Sophie could still feel the stab of pain and sadness in her heart when she stared at Fitz.
When he lunged for her, deep down they both knew that his effort would never succeed. Her bloody fingers had only grazed his. Sophie had heard his piercing thoughts at that moment.
I can't lose her again! This was my entire fault!
That was the heartbreaking part. A burst of happiness blossomed in her wounded chest. She tried to convince herself that it was the only way to save everybody she loved from danger. Sacrifices had to be made anyways. Why not let it be her?The thing that made her overjoyed was the look in Fitz's beautiful teal eyes.
'He cared about her!' But so did the others: Keefe, Biana, Dex, Calla, Grady, Edaline, Della, and Alden. Sophie realized that their pain would be ten times of the grief she was experiencing now.
All her fear, sorrow, thoughts, and feelings swirled into a massive whirlwind inside her mind. In the midst of the mess, a voice rang out.
A voice that had guided, advised, even scolded and encouraged her from the very start, even though Sophie had just noticed it in the past few weeks. From then, she didn't trust it anymore. Though most of the time, it was right.
Let me guide you. We can get out of this together, and help the others!
'WE?!?!?! I don't even trust you! There IS no way out of this!'
Sophie! Trust me PLEASE! If you aren't going to do it for yourself, do it for the others. Spare the people you love and care for from the coming heartaches. It ALL depends on YOU!
Her voice struck a point. Sophie didn't want anybody else to suffer because of her. That voice was right. It did depend on her. And now, she would have to make her choice that would change everything to come. Her life, her friends, her family and future all depended on this. Mere seconds in the never-ending continuation of time would be that influential.
Fitz was wrong. It wasn't his fault. it was hers. She was hiding and running away from her problems. Not facing them. Sophie felt like it was too much for her to bear.
All the lies.
All the betrayals.
All the truths.
All the conflicts.
Either way, they were all catching up to her now. This time, there was nowhere for her to run. It was now or never. Sophie had to fight back. She surrendered to that voice. Tears now streaming down her face, she let out on agonizing scream before she fell into the void.
