I had been driving all night. It was now 5 a.m. By now my body was running on pure adrenaline and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. I had had a recurring dream for the past two months, well more like a nightmare.
It was driving me mad.
Always a girl with dark hair and bright eyes. Her blood spilling onto the floor, her blood spilling over waves of white, and all of this done by my hands. She had amazing eyes. They seemed blue, and then green, and finally gold. They always ended up gold. And each time before she died she would whisper to me, "find her and save her." Then everything would melt away to black and I would jerk awake. Often waking up in a cold sweat, the memory of her eyes burned into my mind.
An eighteen year old boy having a recurring nightmare about killing a girl he had never met. It just sounds, well, insane. I have never been a violent person, not really anyhow. But I have always liked blood and gore and crime scenes. Someday i would be a forensic scientist and live my dream.
As i drove on I began to drift. My mind falling into a haze and my eyelids relaxing. I could see the blurry lights of a town up ahead.
"C'mon Aiden...you can make it.."
I focused as much as I could on the road, but it was no use. The world fell away to nothing but darkness and the steering wheel pulled along with me.
I was back in that same bedroom I had been in multiple times now. This time was different though. When I looked around, I noticed an opening in the floor, I walked over to it and it was empty.
"Hello." said a feminine voice behind me.
I turned around and faced the girl whom I always ended up killing in my dream. She was smiling and in her hand she held a knife.
"You're the boy who has been killing me for the past few months."
Her face lit up. Which was extremely odd considering the topic of conversation.
"Yes but I–I don't know who you are even. Who are you?" My voice sounded shaky. I need to get it together. I cleared my throat and stood taller.
"Who are you?!" I demanded once again.
She said nothing except walk over to me and, on her toes, whispered in my ear.
"We will meet again very soon."
And as she pulled away, I had already plunged the knife into her abdomen. She fell back onto the white sheets of the bed and stared at me with her gold eyes, but she didn't die this time. She just laid there, blood running down her body and pooling on the floor.
"You're going to have to do more than that," she said almost laughing.
This was the last dream I was having where I was going to kill this girl, and I would make sure of it. I walked over to where she lay and leaned over her with one hand beside her head on the mattress. She smiled as I slit her throat.
I woke up in a field. The road was hundreds of feet away and my car was without a doubt, wrecked. I cursed at the pain that shot through my leg as I struggled to stand. I leaned against a nearby post and pulled up one of my pant legs. It was not pretty. There was blood everywhere and it was bruised almost beyond recognition. I tried putting weight on it and inhaled sharply. "Fuck, Aiden you moron, you can't fall asleep while driving.."
Self-admonishment was a habit of mine, and not a good one.
I looked around. The lights of the town were still in the distance, only a couple miles from where I stood. I needed help without a doubt and with my phone somewhere in the remains of my car I began to head towards the lights. The sun was almost about to rise over the horizon and although the crash may have been accidental, I felt like this was a place that I was supposed to be. That girl, she had stayed alive for a reason, and I couldn't help but feel as if I needed to find her. She may not even be real, but I guess that is something I will have to find out on my own.( ayyy it is rather short but i really hope you enjoyed it, i know i enjoyed writing it. )
