A New Brother

The sun had now fully risen and an early morning breeze swept through the town i had entered. The cool air felt good on my face as I passed, unnoticed, down streets and alleys and even through some yards. No one seemed to notice me though. I walked on a sidewalk that passed through what must have been downtown. Small shops, and bars, and restaurants all lined the road in uniform pattern. I decided to ask where I was exactly. I knew I was no longer in my home state. So I definitely was nowhere near my home town.
I pushed open the wooden and glass door to a small bakery nestled between a bar and a tax service office.
An old woman stood behind the counter. She was humming quietly to herself and I hoped my company wouldn't startle her.
"Ma'am? Excuse me ma'am but could you tell me what town this is?" I tried very hard to be gentlemanlike.
The woman did not answer, but instead stopped humming and looked around cautiously.
"H-hello?" she said aloud, obviously frightened. "Who's there?"
She looked startled.
"Um ma'am, I'm right here...and I was wondering if you cou–"
She made eye contact with me.
Her pale blue eyes were full of terror.
Could she not see me? Or worse, what was making her so frightened?
The crone pointed a shaking finger at me. Her mouth started to form words that were never able to escape her lips.
The woman's eyes rolled back in her head and black liquid poured from her nose, mouth, and ears. She dropped to the floor behind the counter.
I leaned over the glass display case between me and the dying old lady. I immediately regretted doing so.
Her body began to twist and seize. All fat and muscle in her body sunk away until she was nothing but skin on bone. Her hair fell out in strands until barely any was left.
I watched in horror until I was aware I was not alone.
I whipped around to see who was in the small bakery with me.
I turned around to see two people.
A woman and man, both in their late twenties or early thirties. Each equally terrifying in appearance. Their lips were curled into terrible smiles, but their mouths were stitched shut. Their eyes were pure, jet black and unforgiving.
Hello Aiden.
A female voice softly rolled through my mind. It was the woman, but how..? Could she talk with her mind...?
How clever you are, young boy.
She spoke again, her smile tightening behind the stitches.
"W-what happened to that woman? Was it you? Did you do this?!" I was frantic. What had just happened...?
The woman you saw is now a Forsaken. She is no longer human and will prowl the earth for the ruin of souls.
The man was talking now. His voice was deep and seemed like it came from the very center of my brain.
"What did you do to her?" I was aware of the crack in my voice, earning a wicked smile from the woman and the man alike.
Well we need to start our mission somewhere and what better place than the location where our soon-to-be brother is?
"What are you talking about you psychotic bitch?" I was screaming now.
The woman reached out a hand and the world around me began to swirl.
You will be helping us in our journey to destroy the Sanguinem Regime. They threaten everything we stand for.
Suddenly the woman was behind me, whispering in my ear as the world darkened around me.
Don't worry Aiden. That young dark haired girl you killed in your dream? You will soon make her acquaintance, and then watch her bleed out before you.
I lost consciousness then.
