Katrice's POV
I lazily jotted down notes as my math teacher talked in a monotone voice. As I did so, my mind wandered and I stared out the window. My life, by far, is the most boring life you could ever experience. I never go anywhere for a vacation, I'm only average at most things I do, in fact.. the most fun I've had in my life was when I was 5 years old. After that, I drifted away from my social life and mainly focused on my studies. Of course tv and movies entertained me though. Basically the only thing nowadays. I didn't mind this to be honest, but I still can't help myself from getting lost into deep thoughts.
"Katrice, would you mind answering this question?" My thoughts were disturbed as I looked at the board and saw a 'complicated' question on the board.
"It's 45" I said plainly. Other students stared at me in shock. I couldn't help but smile a bit. People at this school are straight up idiots. I don't wanna be rude or anything, but it's true. It's Grade 10 and we're still learning basic variables and algebra? If I was at my old school, it'd be more of a challenge. Everything here is so simple and boring. Basically exactly the same as my life.
"RING RING!" The bell rang, repeating the two 'RINGs' four times. I silently closed my books and shoved it into a small knapsack I carried with me from class to class. I hung the knapsack over my shoulder and walked out of the classroom and school building. I shivered slightly in the autumn breeze, regretting wearing this outfit to school. It was a basic grey t-shirt and some black jeans. Around my neck was a red scarf, which was the only warmth I had besides my socks and worn out ballet flats. I ignored the cold and started walking to the direction of my home. With each step I took, the slight breeze seemed to blow harder and harder that I had to start running while hugging myself as an attempt for gathering heat, which failed miserably. It wasn't until a small letter floated gently in front of me, landing softly on the ground as the wind finally died down. I picked it up out of curiosity. On the back had fancy writing printed in gold, which was honestly hard to make out. I squinted hard at it and carefully retraced my steps from elementary when I first learned hand-writing. I arched a brow as I read out MY name. To make sure, I read it once more to find it really was my name. 'Katrice Anaya.' I flipped the letter over in my hands and admired the red wax sealing it. It had some weird emblem on the wax, which I felt like I've seen before, but couldn't figure out where. I gently picked it off, putting it in my bag considering I like weird fancy things like this, and read the little message.
To Katrice Anaya,
You have been accepted into Hogwarts, the magic school for us wizards. In the upcoming week, you will be visited by someone who will help you get all the items you need to attend. The day after, please go to the train station and go to platform 9 3/4. If you do not wish to attend, please tell the man who visits you this so he may forward the message. We wish you the best of luck in the future.
-H. Potter
"....." I stared at the message before me, frantically reading it over and over again. Wizards? Hogwarts? Platform 9 3/4?! Isn't this stuff from those Harry Potter movies?! Someone must be playing a prank on me.. But if they were, how would they manage to get this letter to me by wind? I groaned as I started to get a headache and shoved the note in my bag. I continued walking home while trying to keep my mind off of this. Most people would probably be excited, right? Especially the Harry Potter fans, which I am, but for some reason I'm stressed about this whole situation.
I pushed the door open as I entered the warmth of my house. I shut the door and ran up the stairs. Thankfully, I live alone so I won't have any parents nagging me about how loud I close the door and that I shouldn't run up the stairs like I how I just did. I moved out a year ago to focus more on my studies, which isn't really needed for this school but.. Might as well for the future, right? As I was saying, I belly flopped onto my bed as I let out a sigh. Luckily I didn't have any homework, which was usual, so I decided to just play some flappy bird on my phone, even though I get absolutely no fun out of it, and all I ever do in the end is rage quit. As predicted, I made it up to 9 (which is depressingly my high score) and died, so I exited the app and wondered why I ever downloaded that game in the first place.
