Iris's POV
I walked slowly in the courtyard, a blank expression on my face. I heard a specific group talking.
"Have you watched the Harry Potter movies?" A female brunette said, her eyes sparkling with joy. In response, a girl next to her jumped and squealed.
"Shh! You're not supposed to mention that here!" A male brunette talked this time, covering the girl's mouth. I rolled my eyes as I sat down on a bench and took in the scenery around me. Ugh. I don't even know why I got accepted to this place anyway, I hate Harry Potter. I could barely even read the first book! I only accepted to go in 'cause regular school was boring and easy. And because I might get the chance to see a unicorn.. Duh. Plus, I would be able to live alone, without my parents nagging me all the time 24/7 about getting good grades and all that blah. Geez, I get straight A's and they're always nagging me about it. Although, maybe witchcraft and wizardry could be a challenge. I looked around and saw all the gryffindors or whatever leaving. I looked to see the brunette that was talking about the whole entire 'don't talk about the movies here' thing. I walked over to noticed his scarf was coloured green and white. A slytherin. Surely slytherins aren't all that bad, right? He looked quite nice anyway.
"Erm, hi?" I managed to say without laughing at what my dad would do if he saw me talking with a dude. I sat on the bench across from him. He looked up at me shocked.
"Uh, you're talking to me?" He asked quietly.
"Err.. Yeah, who else?" I replied. He's obviously shy.
"Oh, hi.." He mumbled, looking at the ground.
"So, do you know where everyone in gryffindor went?" I asked, trying to deepen in conversation.
"Nope, my friends that were in gryffindor said its a 'gryffindors only thing.'" He explained.
"Ok then.. Well, I'm Iris." I introduced myself. He nodded slowly before replying.
"I'm Karson.." He murmured. Gosh, why is he so shy?! He didn't seem that shy when he covered his friend's mouth while shushing her.
"Enough with the shy business," I snapped. "I don't wanna be rude or anything, but from what I've heard, people in your house aren't supposed to be shy so what the blooming heck are you doing?!" I exclaimed, standing up from the bench.
"Shut it!" Karson shout-whispered. "It's none of your business anyway.." He growled.
"Tch." I rolled my eyes. "Why ya gotta be so rude," I sang. "Dontcha know I'm human too." Heh, doing that is kinda my thing. Karson raised an eyebrow in response while looking at me weirdly.
"Err.. Mmk." He mumbled, shuffling away slowly. I huffed.
"Am I too weird? Or am I just fabulous?" I joked, which Karson obviously didn't get. I started staring off into the distance, getting bored.
"I think you're just weird." I heard a response from Karson as he smiled a bit. I smiled back, hearing screams.
"What in the world..?" I muttered, immediately going inside the school. As I was running in the halls, I noticed Karson turning left as I kept running straight. I stopped in my tracks and turned around, soon following Karson for I was curious. He didn't seem to notice I was behind him, because he whipped out his wand and literally changed his clothes in a flash. His clean locks were now messy and all over the place, and he was wearing some weird camouflage. He stopped in front of the Great Hall, slowly walking in. I hid myself in the shadows, observing what was going on.
There was a worried Headmaster, walking about as his face lit up when he saw Karson. What was so special about him? Besides the fact that he changed his clothes with magic right before my eyes, even though he's new to Hogwarts.
Immediately, they both ran out. Determined looks on their faces showed as the Headmaster's fancy robe trailed behind him.
Filthy. Doesn't the Headmaster know the ground is filthy?
Ugh whatever. I followed them swiftly, still hiding in the shadows. I froze when I saw a floating dark shadow-like monster, which I couldn't remember the name of at the time.
"Expecto Pantronum!" Both Karson and Harry yelled in unison. It felt less gloomy in the room afterwards, making me be able to walk around again. I slipped past the shadow.. Thing, and continued on.
As we neared the door to the front courtyard of the Hogwarts academy, whatever you want to call it, the positive feeling I felt dulled. I watched as Karson tightly gripped his wand, going outside to see that more of these shadow things were roaming about. I saw so many students, I'm pretty sure all of them, fighting against these things, I felt the positive feelings rise and fall constantly throughout the entire time I stood near the doorway. After just a few seconds, the feelings went away completely, the things (which I just remembered were 'dementors'), disappeared. Karson mumbled something under his breath, too quiet for me to hear, and the female brunette from before grabbed his arm and started questioning him. Karson looked anxious as his face changed to an 'innocent' look, with his eyes full of fear. I scrunched up my eyebrows.
'He is such a bad liar..' I thought, resisting the urge to walk straight up to him and hit him square in the face. I really wanted to call him out, especially after what I just saw. First time at Hogwarts hmm? Yeah right. Unless little magical dwarfs hid in his home and taught him magic or whatever. What? Don't judge me, I don't know Harry Potter stuff. I also heard his parents were 'pure-bloods,' or whatever. I THINK that means that their parents are both witches or wizards, leaving Karson to have their magic flowing in his veins and whatnot. That could explain some things, besides the fact that he's so shy around others, and then in front of the headmaster, it's all like: OOH I'M GONNA BE SO COOL AND CONFIDENT BECAUSE I'M AWESOME.
Like, come on. There's obviously something going on, or else he wouldn't be good acquaintances with the headmaster already.
Basically, I watched the whole thing play out and go to my next class. Exciting, yet boring day, huh?
