You knew that transferring to a new school in the middle of the year would be difficult, but it was turning out to be even worse than you'd expected. Everyone already seemed to have their friends; they'd be sharing dorms with the same kids for years.
Not to mention, as you were slowly beginning to figure out, some of the students of Hogwarts didn't take too kindly to muggle borns like yourself. Slytherins donned in green lined robes (who seemed to for some reason be the natural enemy of your own house, Gryffindor) would turn their noses up at you in disapproval- you'd already been the victim of a few nasty spells in the hallway, tripping you or tying your shoelaces together mid-step.Your best class was obviously muggle studies, considering the fact that you came from a family of pure muggles. This being said, you were less than thrilled about Professor Burbage's new assignment- she was partnering all the pure-bloods with a half-blood or muggle-born, so that those raised in the muggle world could teach someone raised in the wizarding world something new. The choice of what to teach was obvious for you, so you hoped that whoever you were paired with would be interested in guitar.
Your anxiety increased as you entered the classroom, knowing that partners would be announced today. Taking your seat quietly, you wondered how Professor Burbage thought this was a good idea- you would be lucky if the person you were assigned to even bothered to listen to you at all.
"All right everyone, settle down please! I'm going to announce partners now, and you can discuss your project for the remainder of class. You'll be expected to work on this assignment outside of class, so I expect you to plan a time to meet up together!" she explained.
"All right, lets see..." she squinted down at a piece of parchment in her hands. "Granger and Weasley!" she called out. The girl sat in front of you sighed in relief as she looked at the red head next to her. Their dark haired friend rolled his eyes, obviously upset that he wouldn't be working with either of the two.
You spaced out as Burbage read names off of the list, mind wandering to who you could be partnered with. Your mind immediately went to the Slytherin boy you'd been eyeing since your arrival at Hogwarts: Draco Malfoy. You knew he hated muggle borns (or as you often heard him say, mudbloods), but that didn't stop your attraction to the boy. His confident demeanor, his mysterious grey eyes-
"(Y/L/N) and Malfoy!" Burbage called out, interrupting your train of thought and causing your pulse to quicken. Had she really paired you with Draco? You turned to look at him and were surprised to see his gaze already on you. He quickly sneered and looked away, evidently displeased with his partner.
When she had finished announcing the pairs, the Professor told everyone to meet with their partner. You looked around for Draco, wondering if you should come to him or if he would sit next to you, but before you could guess you felt a body slump into the seat next to you, grabbing your attention.
It had been Draco, and the blonde boy sat next to you with such disinterest that you weren't sure whether you could even bring yourself to talk to him. He turned to look at you suddenly, an eyebrow arched. "Well? Are you just going to stare at me for the rest of class or are you going to tell me what stupid thing your going to teach me?"
