Details: Muggle-born female reader, a Draco that goes way off canon lmao whoops!!
Warnings: Bullying
You were the nagging thought in the back of his mind before he went to sleep, the one that he tried to ignore and suppress. You were the repetitive pop song that he would never admit to enjoying. You were the sugary kids cereal that he still ate, regardless of how bad it was for him. You were the thing he knew he shouldn't want, and yet his feelings betrayed him, no matter how many times he tried to convince himself he didn't have feelings for you.
You were Draco's guilty pleasure, and he hated it.
It wasn't your house that bothered him, or the people you hung out with. It wasn't your personality or your looks that made him question his attraction to you. Any of these things could never have bothered him as much as what did: you were a mudblood.
He watched you delicately prepare your potion from across the room, laughing with your friend as you stirred the substance rhythmically.
"She's no different from any other mudblood, she's got the same useless muggle parents and the same dirty blood running through her veins," he told himself, glaring at the backside of your head. "You shouldn't think of her as any different than Granger."
"What's the mudblood done to get you so worked up now?" Crabbe asked, noticing the leer that Draco was sending your way.
"Hm? Oh, N-nothing," he stammered, his face warming with embarrassment from being caught. "Just plaguing us with her presence, as usual."
"Did you hear she got points taken from Slytherin this morning?"
"How?"
"Pansy and some friends ganged up on her in the hallway," he laughed at the memory, "had her cornered and everything. Just as Pansy was about to turn her into a rat Mcgonagall broke it up."
You turned around, overhearing the story and knowing that they were talking about you. You stayed silent as Draco met your eyes from across the classroom. His heart ached knowing that you had been put in such an awful position, but he quickly pushed the unwanted feeling aside.
"Being a rat would be a blessing compared to what she is now," he sneered haughtily, his eyes not leaving yours as the insult left his mouth.
Your jaw clenched in anger and tore your gaze away from his, turning around quickly to return to your potion. You wouldn't sink to their level, and you certainly wouldn't make an outburst in Snape's class - you wouldn't let yourself be the cause of point loss for your house.
Draco regretted his comment as soon as he saw the pain on your face, and wished he could take it back. Crabbe, however, was snickering in admiration for his jab.
As class ended, Draco watched as you went up to turn in your potion, only to be tripped by Millicent, who was still angry about the events of that morning. You dropped your potion, the jar breaking, allowing the purple liquid inside to leak onto the floor. Snape muttered something about a zero, causing your shoulders to crumple in disappointment. You thought you had done quite well on that potion, but now all your hard work was in a puddle at your feet.
