Prologue
Sometimes, Ethan really loves his disability. It sounds strange, but it's oh so true. Like the fact that he could technically speak two separate languages and the fact that he was able to use that talent to his advantage, teaching others how to 'speak' again. He always felt gifted, being able to help others, both emotionally and physically. Whether it was assisting people, victims and their families, in overcoming whatever trauma had caused them to seek him out in the first place, or teaching them the new way they would be communicating with others.
Sometimes, Ethan really loves being deaf.
Sometimes, Ethan really hates his disability. Like when people comment on the strange waver in his voice when he speaks. It's something he can't really control. After all, he hasn't heard his own voice in nearly a decade. Some speech therapist thought it was amazing he could speak so, well, normally, for having lost his hearing so many years ago. After all, the brain does tend to forget sounds when you no longer hear them. The occasional fumble in his words caught people's attention. Other times, he might accentuate the wrong syllable or his tone would fluctuate between words and people seemed as if they had no clue what he had said. While in reality he might have only misspoken a few words, he became very self-conscious about speaking to strangers.
Sometimes, Ethan really hates being deaf.
