You had called out of work sick the next day, and fought to ignore Jamie afterwards. You trying to protect yourself, and him because you'd felt like he would be better off with Sid. You had switched shifts so you wouldn't run into him, ignored his worried texts and calls, and stayed away from your normal bars and even avoided the gym at the station. You thought he'd finally given up, and after three weeks of being constantly nauseated and sleep deprived, walked into you apartment exhausted. You had dropped your keys in the bowl next to the entrance and hearing someone in the kitchen, drew your personal weapon. You turned the corner to Jamie calmly looking up at you from across the island where he was standing arms crossed. You had forgotten you'd given him a spare.
"Why you blowing me off l/n?" He asked angrily.
"I've just been busy." You lied, shrugging your shoulders and chewing the inside of your cheek.
"That's bull. You changed shifts, you don't answer my calls or texts, and you haven't talked to me in three weeks. Did I do something? Or is this how it is now, we just stop talking for no reason? " He half asked, half yelled waving his hands in the air like he always did when he got angry.
"I need to go to bed." You mumbled.
"You wanna go to bed, fine. I'll be waiting right here when you wake up." He said walking over and sitting on the couch, fumming. His face was red and he was shaking, you hadn't seen him this angry in a long time, not since Joe had been killed.
"What if I told you to leave?" You asked quietly.
"Then I'd wait outside until you came out. You'd have to come out eventually." He snapped.
You teared up trying to control yourself, and you turned away from him.
You didn't hear him come up behind you, but you felt him gently grab your wrists and spin you around, letting him lead you to the couch. He sat next to you, shoulder against shoulder, waiting for you to talk.
"I don't think we can hang out anymore." You just whispered, tears rolling down your face.
"Why?" He demanded.
"I can't tell you." You said voice breaking.
"Why not? We've been best friend since we were born, and you can't give me a reason?" He asked voice breaking.
You just sat quietly.
"Look me in the eyes and say it to my face, and I'll leave. I won't try to talk to you again, and I'll leave you alone." He said, making you cry harder.
You looked him the eyes and couldn't say anything because your throat had constricted at the sight of him crying.
"You can't." He choked out, grabbing your arms. "Tell me what's wrong I'm not going anywhere until I know." He said tightening his grip slightly.
You managed to spit out "Sid."
"What?" He whispered.
"Sid... Told me..ee.. we.. couldn't... Hang out." You said between breaths. "Too...close."
"Y/n/n what exactly did she say?" Jamie asked.
"Jamie..." You tried to warn him.
"Tell me what she said." He said voice shaking.
You shook your head.
"Tell me." He whispered.
You told him what she said, changing it slightly to try and make her seem better.
