Partners In Crime

Part 4

Warning: This chapter has a suicide threat, if this is a trigger please avoid!

"I'm going to jump!" The woman said taking a step closer to the edge, while you and Kelley stood back a distance trying to talk her down. The woman had served two tours in Afghanistan with the Marines, just like you had, but she said she couldn't take the nightmares anymore.

"Kelley keep her talking I'll be right back", you said running towards the garden area where you had seen a hose.

You quickly grabbed it, tying it to an anchor on the roof, before wrapping it around your waist and legs, making a make shift harness.

Rennzuli and Jamie came upstairs in time to see you climbing onto the ledge next to the distraunt woman.

"Y/l/n! Get back down right now!" Rennzuli hissed.

"I know you're upset," you calmly said inching closer to the woman, "but this isn't the way to solve anything. Why don't you and I climb down and we can talk."

"I'm done talking," she said sobbing as she stepped off the ledge.

You jumped off after her,
Jamie, Kelley, and Rennzuli all screamed and ran towards you simultaneously. You grabbed hold of her, just as the hose jerked upwards catching the two of you. You clunng to her as tightly as you could,  slamming backwards into the brick wall.

"Y/n!" Jamie screamed as he scrambled onto the ledge. He let out a sigh of relief when he saw both of you were ok.

"Help me get em up!!" He yelled, and you slowly began being lifted towards the roof.

You scraped your back and arms as they pulled you over the side, but you ignored it, only focusing on making sure the woman was ok. You refused to let her go until she was cuffed, and inside the building, only then did the reality of what you did sink in, and you collapsed onto the ground exhausted.

Rennzuli was on you within a minute. "Do you know how stupid that was?! If you ever pull another stunt like that again your out of my precinct, and maybe the force!" He yelled shaking with anger.

"Boss can you give her some space? She just fell two stories." Jamie said intercepting him for you.

"That was really stupid, and I should kill you, but it was also really brave. Don't you hate heights." Jamie said pulling his jacket off and laying it over top of you.

"Yeah, hate them more than anything. But Semper Fi, so I'd do anything to help out another Marine." You groaned as you tried to get up, your body screaming in protest.

"I got you." Jamie said scooping you off the ground bridal style.

"Put me down Regan my legs hurt but they aren't broken." You hissed as his uniform came into contact with the scrapes on your arms.

"Your not gonna make it down seven flights of stairs, your body is gonna be black and blue, and your gonna be lucky if you didn't bruise your spine." He said as he used one arm to gently lift yours to rest on your chest.

"Shut up know it all." You growled.

"Stop bickering old ladies." Kelley laughed from behind you.

"At least we're not as old as Rennzuli" you muttered quietly.

"What was that y/l/n?" Rennzuli snapped.

"She bruised her brain too Sarge, she doesn't know what she's saying." Jamie said laughing.

You got awarded a medal for that call, one you have cherished not because it was an award, but because you were able to save one Marine after losing so many in Afghanistan. But that call brought all the nightmares rushing back, and it was Jamie who slept on the other side of the bed when the nightmares came back and were starting to mess with your sleep. He would wake you up and remind you were you were, playing with your hair until you fell asleep again. The nightmares didn't come back after the first two nights, he stayed a week. He was your safe place, where you turned when you were lost, or confused, or scared.

Present
Jamie sat in the small chapel, head bowed and hands folded.

"Dear God,
Please don't take away my best friend. She is the most incredible person I know, and she has changed my life in more ways than one. She is my rock when I'm at my weakest, my shelter in a storm, and I love her, and I'm sorry I didn't realize before now. I promise if you give me a second chance to put it to good use, but even if that isn't your plan please just let her be ok. In your name I pray, Amen."

"Jamie, she's in a room now,you can visit if you'd like but I don't know when she'll wake up." Danny said putting his hand on his younger brothers shoulder.
