Part 7

You and Linda sat talking when Jamie ran in, soaked and exhausted.

Linda excused herself as he stood staring at you in the doorway.

"Geez J, I'm out for 3 days and you've already gone to pieces," You said with a small grin while he continued to look like a deer in headlights.

He said nothing as he walked over to you, cupped his hands on either side of your face and kissed you intently. Your heart began racing and if you were paying attention, you would have the machine next to you beeping in protest, but you were too busy being immersed in the kiss that literally started taking your breath away. Jamie pulled back as soon as he noticed you started having trouble, and started to mumble "sorry". You grabbed his collar and pulled him back for another kiss.

Frank cleared his throat and you pulled back, blushing at the fact you had gotten caught kissing the commissioners son by his father, and your boss.

"I'm very happy for the two of you, but Jamie she just woke up from a coma, can you give her a second to breathe?" Frank asked, a twinkle in his eye.

"I'm heading home for the night, please call if you need anything. We'll all be back tomorrow after church to visit. The both of you get some rest." Frank said as he turned to leave.

"You know what you said earlier wasn't funny." Jamie said pushing the hair away from your face.

"Whatever, I kept my promise didn't I?" You said grabbing his hand and intertwining his fingers with yours.

"How about we never test how close you can go to that again?" He said around the lump in his throat.

"I'll do my best," you said as the sedation pump hissed, you struggled against what you knew was coming, fighting to sit up.

"You can rest, I don't plan on going anywhere." Jamie said noting the way your eye lids began fluttering and your head began to droop.

"No. I've had enough sleep, I don't need anymore." You said jutting out your bottom lip like a child.

"I know Y/n/n, but I'm going to nap right here and we can talk more when you wake up. I Love you." Jamie said gently lowering you back against your pillows and placing a kiss to your forehead.

"I Love you too." You drifted back off to sleep.

Jamie said back in the chair and took your hand in his own again. He watched the rise and fall of your chest, and the small smile you had as you fell further into sleep. Linda and Danny stood smiling from the doorway for a few minutes before making their presence known. 

"How's sleeping beauty doing?" Danny said standing at the foot of the bed.

"She's doing ok, I think that tomorrow will better for visitors." Jamie said turning towards him.

"Easy champ, nobody's taking you away from her." Danny said teasingly, "I just wanted to stop by after tour to see how our little fighter was."

"Jamie are you planning on sleeping on that chair again?" Linda asked.

"I'm not leaving." He said moving closer to your bed.

"I didn't say you had to, but you aren't sleeping in that awful chair." Linda said disappearing down the hallway.

She came back a few minutes later wheeling in a cot, another nurse following with a pillow and blanket.

"Linda you didn't have to do that." Jamie said protesting.

"Yes I did, you're supposed to get better at a hospital not worse. Plus you have slept here three nights, you need quality rest."

"You do look like garbage kid." Danny said with a chuckle.

"Thanks Danny, you should be a life coach." Jamie snorted.

"Go to bed, I took another shift in this ward so I will watch her, you need to get some sleep." Linda said sternly.

"Ok Linda, and thank you." Jamie said pulling the cot next to your bed.

"You're welcome." Linda said pulling him in for a hug before heading back to the nurses station.

"Get some rest, and I'm really happy for the two of you. We got all three of the guys who did this dead to rights." Danny said ruffling his hair before slipping out the door.

Jamie kicked off his shoes and coat, shifting the cot closer to your bed, before slipping under the covers. He laid watching the steady rise and fall of your chest, before slowly drifting off to sleep.
