I open my eyes everything is blurry. I can feel something on my face. I'm lying in bed but I can barley move. I start to see people coming round me looking at me but I don't hear them. My vision is going in and out from blurry to clear. I feel like i just ran a mile, every bone and muscle in my body hurts. I have no idea where I am. It hurts to breathe. My lungs feel like they might explode. I think my head hurts the most. My mouth is so dry and I'm starving but I feel like I might be sick. My vision is clear and I can see the people above me but they don't look familiar. Then everything goes black.
5 days later
I open my eyes and I don't know how long I was out for maybe about an hour. My body doesn't hurt like before which I guess is a good sign. But I'm still thirsty and hungry. I move my head to the right side of my bed and see a boy asleep in it. I have no clue who he is or where I am. I push my self so I'm sitting in my bed. I look around the room there are machines all round me there are thin tubes in my arms. Next to me there's a tray with a cup on it but its empty. All I can think about is how hungry and thirsty I am. The door to my room suddenly opens and a man walks in with a white lap coat on. He has a clipboard in his hand and is looking down at them he looks up and walks over to the left side of my bed.
"How are you feeling?" He asks. Then it suddenly hits me maybe I'm in a hospital. The machines, the tubes and this guy must be the doctor.
"I'm thirsty" I say with a raspy voice. The doc laughs a little.
"I would think so you've been asleep for almost-"
"8 days, 6 hours and 46 minutes" the doctor is cut off by the boy in the chair. I don't know who he is but the doctor doesn't seem alarmed that he's here. I look back and forth between him and the doctor.
"How could I have been asleep for 8 days I feel like I've been asleep for about an hour?" I ask.
"Well that's usual when you have a head injury." He says still writing.
A head injury! What happened to me? I try so hard to remember but I can't remember anything. The doctor looks up from writing. Before he can say anything the boy in the chair standers up and comes and stands at the end of my bed.
"Do you remember what happened? The accident? Anything at all Sarah?" He said.
"What accident? Who'a Sarah? And where I'm I and who are you?" I say.
Before the boy can answer the doctor quickly takes him by the arm an leads him out the door and into the hall. I can see them taking but I don't know what their talking about. Maybe it's about "the accident". I start thinking about what the boy said about that. And I think I'm Sarah. But I don't know. I see more people walking down the hall. There's a man, a women and a girl that looks about 16 with her arm in a bright pink cast. They stop and listen to what the doc is saying. They look back at me though the glass every so often. I don't know who they are either. A lady in all white walks past them and walks into my room. She has a tray of food and water. She sets the tray in the table next to me and it swivel over me. She doesn't say anything. But she looks at my machines and tubes.
"Where I am?" I ask her before I start eating.
She stops and looks over at me. "You're in the hospital and the man that was in here before is Dr. Baker and I'm Marie I'm a nurse." She talked slowly but I like it.
"Ok so what happened to me?"I ask "And who I'm I?"
"I think you're family and friends should tell you." She says.
"Is that my family out there?"I ask as I point to the people in the hall. Who now look shocked.
She looks out there and says "yes that is your family."
As we were talking I was eating and I'm all ready finished with both my food and my water. I'm really tried now. The doc is finally done talking and Marie takes my tray and leaves. The doc walks in and close the door. I see the people in the hall sit down in the chairs out there. The doc walks over and sits on an edge of my bed.
"Hi my name is Dr. Baker" he reaches out his hand. I shake his hand. "Do you remember what you're name is?"
I think for a minute. I try really hard to remember but I just can't. "No." I say. "I just.....I just can't...I-" he cut me off.
"It's ok" he says. "Many people lose their memory and don't remember who they are or where they are. Just like you and many after a while all of sudden remember everything. It just takes time."
I don't know what to say this is a lot to take in. I lay back down and stare at the ceiling. It really strange not having any memories. I don't know how to describe the feeling.
"So I'm guessing that's my family in the hall?" I say
"Yes it's is" said Dr. Baker. "But you have friends in the waiting room as well. They were the ones that sent you these." He says as he points to the flowers, stuffed animals balloons all round the room. I didn't notice them before.
"When can I see my family?" I ask
"Anytime you want," he said. "But the reason why I was talking to them, was to explain what had happen. I had a feeling you might lose your memory."
"How did you know I would lose my memeory?" I asked
"From where your injury was." He said as he was pointing to a spot on his head just above his forehead. "This is where your memory is stored and I wasn't sure how damaged it was."
I felt the spot he was pointing to on my own head. I could feel a big bump "Ouch" I said. It even hurt to just touch it.
"Yes you might have some head aches over the next couple days but they shouldn't last long." He said as he stood up heading for the door. "I'll go get your family. I'm sure you want to know more." I nodded.
