The Lovely Bite: 11. Guardian

We walk back inside the mansion and onto the third floor where is his office is. I am awkwardly following behind him meanwhile he looks back at me to check if I'm okay. Or if I don't escape.

He opens his office door and let's me in, shutting it behind him. I gulp down the lump that formed in my throat as he gestures the chair in front of his desk.

"Please sit." He says and I obey, sitting down and he goes across from me on his chair behind his desk. "I really don't want to talk about what happen with you and Adeline. I don't give two shits about that."

"Then why did you sound so determined about it earlier?"

"Because we were around people who has hearing range from us and I said it so they can think I brought you here to talk about that." I sigh, slouching in my seat while looking up to Mr. Hansel.

"Okay go on then. What is it about?"

"There is a lot I need to tell you. It is very important so I do not need you to run off in sadness or disappointment." I pull my eyes away from him and I glare down at the desk, thinking about catching him feeding on the worker.

"Um... Well let's get it over then." I say, crossing my arms over my chest. I feel a bit cold in his office.

"First thing first, I am sorry that you had to see... w-what happen yesterday."

"Don't worry about that, it's fine. I should have knocked or ignored it." I awkwardly say, feeling my cheeks flush in redness.

"It was my concern but it's not going to be the first time you see that here."

"I do not what to hear it, just skip it."

"No, I'm being honest."

"Was the lady human?" He looks at me, furrowing his eyebrows and thinking about it.

"Yes, why wouldn't she?" Now he makes me feel stupid.

"I don't know! I don't know how things work here!" I say feeling a bit embarrassed. Mr. Hansel chuckles at my comment while he shakes his head.

"Well, you would have known years ago."

"What do you mean?" I ask him, sitting up in my seat, leaning closer to him.

"It's been a long time Adeline. I haven't seen you since you were an infant. And let me tell you, that human world changed your world."

"Are you telling me something I do not know."

"I'm your guardian Adeline." I stare at Mr. Hansel with my mouth wide open. What is he talking about?

"Is this some vampire shit because I'm sick of it."

"No it's not. Human have guardians too, like when a parent dies and someone takes care of the child and raises them as their own"

"Wait, but you are like twenty- something." I suddenly reply to him, shaking my head.

"Adeline, I'm thirty-five."

"What? You don't even look thirty-five."

"Well vampires do look younger when they get to the big numbers." I look at him speechless and he just stares at me until he breaks eye contact. "Anyways, back to the subject, I have been your guardian since you were an infant."

"Does my parents know about this?"

"Your real parents are dead." What the actually fuck. I rub my head and I run my hands through my hair. After I start to laugh, getting up from sitting down.
