Hi, this is a new story. I hope you enjoy it, and if you like it please leave me a comment or a message!
STORY STARTS HERE _____________________________________________________________
It’s funny how one phone call can completely change somebody’s life, well not funny, but I don’t know what other word to use or any other way to describe it. Another strange and funny thing is timing, your life could be going perfect, you have the best family, the best friends, the best clothes, the best house, well basically the best everything... and then suddenly everything comes crashing down. A gust of reality whips you into the real world, and suddenly, everything is nothing.

It was saturday evening and I just arrived home after being at the cinema with a small group of friends, the movie was good and after it ended we had a delicious meal at a nearby Italian restaraunt. I was tired out, so I dragged myself up the stairs and ran a quick shower. As I stripped off my clothes, the water pattered down onto the floor of the shower. I stepped in and sighed happily as the warm beads of water hit my skin, racing down my back, stomach and legs. I tilted my head back and washed my hair with a sweet smelling wild strawberry shampoo and matching conditioner. After being in the shower for a good 5 minutes, I turned off the tap, got out, wrapped my hair in a towel, and covered my body in a fluffy, white robe.
I slowly made my way to my room, where I sat on my king-size bed and switched on my plasma screen whilst drying my damp hair. My deep brown hair took a while to dry as it was thick and full of volume. When my hair was complete I changed into pastel pink cotton shorts and a soft white t-shirt with short sleeves, I picked up my duvet and dragged it downstairs with me. I let it drop onto the sofa and I snuggled under it while I watched t.v. Half an hour through my program, the phone rang, so I picked it up.
"Hello is this Miss Katie Wilson?" asked a male voice, he sounded like a businessman. When businessmen called the house, they usually wanted to talk to my dad, so why did this man want to talk to me? As I thought about my dad, I wondered where he and my mom were right now, they had went out for the day as it was their anniversary, and they promised they would be back before 9pm, it was half past that. "Hello, is this Miss Katie?" the man asked me again, snapping me out of my questioning thoughts.
"Yes, yes it is. May I ask who you are, though?" I replied, slightly confused and creeped out at the same time: I was alone in this huge house, with a weird man wanting to talk to me on the phone, like I mentioned, kind of creepy.
"I am Officer Dan, I have some news for you" he took a deep breath, "I'm sorry I had to leave you this message via phone, but all the officers are out and I'm in the passenger seat of a police car right now, no way of turning back when there are criminals to catch..." he let out a quiet chuckle, it sounded fake and I could tell that he was nervous, for whatever reason.
"What's the news?" I muttered. I could already tell it was bad, I gulped and bit my lip as I waited for his reply.
"Your parents, Alan and Maria Wilson... well, they were found dead in their car, it was a country road, Miss, nobody was around to save them in time. I'm sorry but, they're... they're dead." he sighed again and stayed on the line as I sat there speechless. For a few minutes neither of us said a word, but then Officer Dan broke the eery silence as he muttered, "I'm so very sorry I had to tell you that. Also, someone will be at your home soon, to comfort you and take you under their care. I'm sorry for telling you that, as well. I think I should cut off the phone call now, I should really let you get your head round this, I... I'm sorry, so very sorry." he rambled on until finally the line cut off and I was left to sit on my own, in shock.
I didn't cry, I was sad, yes. My heart felt like it had been ripped apart, yes. But it didn't feel real, so the tears just wouldn't come.

It was the day after the funeral of my parents, the day after everything suddenly felt real and the day after the tears and anger finally came. I awoke to the sound of a knock on the door, I pulled my duvet over my head and let more tears fall, I didn't want to get up, I just wanted to lay in bed and attempt to sleep away the pain I felt in my heart. After another few knocks, I finally kicked off my duvet and dragged myself down the stairs, ignoring the fact that I looked a mess: my hair was like a lions, all over the place in a hay-like mess. My eyes were red and puffy from crying, and my skin was sore and dry due to a lack of care. I opened the front door slowly and came eye-to-eye with a woman who looked to be in her early 40's.
"Hello..." I muttered quietly, dropping my eyes to the floor.
"Oh sweet pea, you look dreadful" she smiled softly and looked behind me, "you might remember me, I'm Catalina Drew, I was your moms best friend, I moved away when you were just 2 so you probably don't remember me, but anyways... Maria, she left my name in her will, I'm, well I'm your new legal guardian..." she looked up at me with a nervous smile, she had a tear rolling down her cheek, probably due to mentioning my mom and after her small speech she stayed silent.
"Oh..." was all I could say. What was I supposed to say, I didn't even know this woman and she was supposedly my new 'legal guardian'.
"Sweetie, I live in New York, our plane is leaving tomorrow morning, you'll have to start packing" wait, what? New York? No way, there was no way I could move to New York, from what I know, it was full of traffic, cars and people, and it was full of tourists taking pictures of everything and everyone, and the people there were meant to be high-class businessmen and women. They got everything they wanted and all the girls were beautiful and the guys were hot but stuck-up and... either I watch to many movies or... I don't know, but no, not New York.
I could hardly say no, this woman would be doing me a huge favour, taking in a miserable 17 year old girl with no family and soon, no friends. So I simply nodded, let her in the house, made her a cup of tea and went upstairs to wrap my head around this situation and start packing.
20 minutes into packing my suitcase, I noticed the sound of the telivision on downstairs, and Catalina walking around. I closed my eyes and imagined that it wasn't Catalina, instead I imagined it was my mom, and everything was okay and this was all just a dream. Even though I knew the truth, it still felt nice to imagine.

As the plane landed in New York, I took a deep breath. It's okay Katie, everything will be okay, I thought to myself. We stepped off the plane and collected our baggage, it had been a long flight and I had slept most of the journey, meaning I felt groggy and horrible.
"The boys are still at school, so you'll have time to take a shower and unpack" Catalina said to me, smiling gently. Um, boys? What boys?
"Boys as in... boys?" I asked dumbly, making her chuckle softly.
"I have 3 sons" is she joking, please say that she is, there is no way I can live in a house with 3 boys oh god, help, "I have a 15 year old, Dylan, and twins, they're 17, Jasper and Alex" she smiled again and gave me a reassuring rub on the shoulder. I gulped, this was going to be one hell of an adventure!
