Author's:

Hi! Um, I have just gotten this idea, but it's not originally mine, so if it's yours, I'm sorry.

Also, I do not own Divergent or any of its original characters.

I pull the blade across my palm, the teeth digging into my flesh. My blood pools into my palm as my hand dangles over the bowl of gray stones. Abnegation or Dauntless? Safe or stuck?

My name is Tobias Eaton and I will be an Initiate.

I do not belong in Candor - I lie to easily.

I do not belong in Amity - I struggle with kindness.

I do not belong in Erudite - Not wise enough.

Do I act in cowardice? Or in selfishness? Do I stay with the cause of my nightmares or leave in an act of cowardice?

"Tobias, please make your choice." My father's voice fills my ears. I must've been standing up here with a blank expression for who knows how long.

My arm twitches and my blood pours into the bowl of flaming coals. I hear it sizzle with contact and the whole room sucks in a breath of air.

I am the first Abnegation tranfer to move to Dauntless.

I practically run over to the other Dauntless. I glare at Marcus's shocked face. His hands rest absentmindedly on his belt and I can tell what he's thinking.

'If only I could help that boy...He never understands why I do this. It's for his own good. I wish I could hit him once more for turning his back on his family. On his own blood.'

The rest of the ceremony goes on in a blur. I notice the Prior children, Caleb and Beatrice. I watch as Caleb squeezes Beatrice's hand before stalking up the stage. He cuts his palm and his blood splashes into the clear water of Erudite. A look of encredulousy pases of Beatrice's face and she bites down on her lip.

"Beatrice Prior." My father calls. Her legs are weak as she stumbles up to the stage, her shoulders hunched. It's a trait all the Abnegation possess. It helps us blend in. Or, it also makes us targets.

Beatrice slides the knife over her palm, biting down on her lip. She looks confused for a second and her hand trembles. Her bright eyes dart from bowl to bowl.

In one swift movement her blood is splashed onto the sizzling coals of Dauntless. It's like all the air in the room is sucked out. Everyone takes in a large, shocked breath of air.

Two Abnegation-born teenagers switching to Dauntless...It's unheard of.
