  {Reader's POV}

            The next few days there was a bit of tension, to put it lightly.

            Jack obviously still felt guilt about attacking me. Every night he made a big show of locking his bedroom door before going to sleep, as if discouraging me from entering. Not that I would, because his room felt off-limits, taboo. Unless he fell asleep in the living room or my bedroom, I wouldn't bother him. Waking him was a one-time thing, I doubted I would be doing THAT again. Along with that, he still kept his mask on twenty-four seven despite my words. If anything, he seemed to be even more protective of it, constantly checking if the strap was on correctly.

             Despite the tension, we still went to the clearing on a daily basis so he could work on the dummies. After two more days of failing to get past the limb stage due to his perfectionist tendencies, Jack had placed me in charge of molding them and went to work on the torso. He still tried to get it as accurate as possible, but this time it wasn't as big of a deal since it at least made sense. After all, he'd be using them as references for extracting organs, though I tried not to think about that part too much.

            Three days after the initial incident, Jack decided to stop fussing over the dummies and go hunting, leaving me alone at the cabin. For the first time, though, he didn't chain me to the bed. He just said goodbye and left me alone, leaving me with a glorious sense of freedom. Despite the tension, it seemed I'd still managed to build a bit of trust. Honestly, that realization gave me the best feeling I've had in ages. I would have celebrated with [fav ice cream] or [fav candy] if I had any.

            After reading a bit in my room, I got bored of the book and went to the living room to watch TV. I was still there when he returned, carrying several canvas bags and a satchel slung over his shoulder. Upon opening the door and seeing me on the couch he gave a jump, nearly dropping the bags, before quickly collecting himself and tilting his head.

            "What are you doing...?"

             "Watching TV. Did you know nighttime programming is better than daytime? This paid advertising block is HILARIOUS. The host and 'happy customers' are all so cheesy." Glancing at the bags, I perked up a bit. "Did you get me food too?"

            "Uh, yeah, but..."

            "Sweet!" I rose and took the bags from him, leaving the satchel since it was slung over his shoulder, and carried them to the kitchen table.

            "Wait," he muttered as he followed me. "Those bags are heavy, and you're still recovering..."

            "Jack, you said it usually takes up to three weeks to recover from appendectomies, and it's been three and a half. I'm pretty sure I'm good now." Jack just watched me in obvious bewilderment as I set the bags down, but after a moment he slowly followed and set the satchel on the counter. I glanced back but quickly refocused my attention on the bags as I saw him remove a jar. Clinks sounded as he opened the fridge and rearranged the fridge's contents to fit it inside. Organs, no doubt. Even now I wasn't used to the idea of him eating them.
