Chapter One

"Are you sure you don't want to come over?" Alyson asked. I shook my head, "I'm sure, I have to study and check to see if I got my acceptance letter in the mail." She sighed meaning she understood. Alyson was my best friend since kindergarten and knew me better than even I did. She knew how important getting into The Art Institute for Performers was for me. It was the only school I wanted to go to ever since I was in third grade. "Well call me ASAP if you get the letter to let me know okay?" she said giving me a hug goodbye. "I will don't worry," I replied with a smile. I slipped into my Jeep and drove off.

I immediately checked the mail box to see if I had my acceptance letter. Of course there was nothing, but mail for my mom and my twin brother Austin. I never got mail unless it was a holiday, some stupid ad, or my monthly subscriptions to magazines I signed up for. I sighed and shut the mail box.

I walked through the front door and dropped my backpack on the couch. I walked into the kitchen to find Austin and his buddy, Phil, studying soccer plays. "Hey Austin, Phil," I said. Austin looked up and nodded. "Hi Ri," Phil said with a smile. I grabbed a water from the fridge and walked out to go to my room.

I couldn't study anymore or I might have exploded. I shut my book and grabbed a pair of Chucks and my notebook. I popped my head in the kitchen, my mom came home without notice. "Hi Mom," I said. "Hi honey, how was school?" she asked without looking. "It was fine, no letter yet." "Don't worry it will come, anyways dinner will be ready in about an hour." "Okay, I'm going to go for a walk to get some fresh air, I'll be back soon." "Okay, be careful." I didn't reply, I just walked out the front door. Once I stepped outside I could feel the cool breeze. I pulled my bag strap tighter and shoved my hands in my jacket pockets and started to walk to the park nearby.

It took about ten minutes to get there walking, but I didn't mind. I love going for walks because then I get time to think without being interrupted. As I came to the entrance of the park I heard a little girl laughing. I looked over to the swing set and saw a little girl around three in the toddler swing with her older brother who was extremely attractive. His hair was almost red and long pulled back into a pony tail. I could see from where I was standing his eyes were a soft brown, and his smile made butterflies flutter in my stomach. He looked up and his eyes met mine, I blushed and quickly looked away and sat underneath a big tree and took out my notebook. I started to write down lyrics and hummed a melody that I thought would fit the lyrics. I was stuck on a second verse, I looked up and saw the brother and sister no longer at the swing set. They were over at the big playground. I walked over to the swing set and sat down giving myself a break from song writing.

I wasn't really swinging, but just gently swinging back and fourth. From the corner of my eye I saw a figure sit down at the swing next to me. My eyes widened when I saw the big brother sit down. "Hi," he said with a charming smile. "Um..hi," I said shyly. I was never shy, but for some reason I couldn't really speak normally around him. "Do you mind if I swing next to you?" he asked. I shook my head, "Go ahead."
"Thanks, my name is Ren."
"Hi, I'm Akari, but I prefer Ri," I said with a smile.
"Nice to meet you, so why are you here by yourself?" he asked curiously.
"Oh, I come here when I need a break, or come here to write some lyrics."
"You're a singer?"
I nodded, "Yeah, I sometimes sing at a local cafe."
"That's cool, do you go to Somber High?"
"No, I go to Washington Field High School, but I take it you go to Somber?"
"Nah, I graduated last year. My younger sister is a junior there though, my cousin goes to Washington though."
"Really? What's her name?"
"Kristine Abster."
I nearly fell off the swing, he was related to Kristine Abster, the bitch herself. Ever since freshmen year she's been nothing but a bitch to me for no reason whatsoever. "Yeah I know her," I said trying not to sound obvious that I hate her. "I don't talk to her much cause she's been a bitch for the past three years." I just looked at him wondering what the story was, but it wasn't my place to ask. I looked at my phone to see what time it was, I had five minutes to get home. "Oh shit. I'm sorry Ren I have to go home for dinner, it was nice meeting you," I said staggering to get off the swing and ended up falling on my ass. I felt my cheeks turning red from embarrassment. Suddenly I felt two arms wrapped around my waist picking me up off the ground. I turned around seeing that it was Ren who helped me up. "Thanks," I mumbled brushing off the dirt from my ass and thighs. Ren laughed, it was a husky low laugh, "No problem, hey," he said rubbing the back of his neck, "Can I get your number?" A smiled formed at the corners of my mouth, "Yeah."
